It was like any other ride, nice day and I simply walked out of the house saying to my wife I'm going for a quick ride. It was after all a pretty routine ride but as I was going over some railroad tracks after about 12 miles from the house, I failed to hit the tracks perpindicular enough and my front tire slipped and I totally lost control. I crashed and went down hard in the middle of the lane. It was weird cause it seemed like I saw myself crash in slow-motion but from another angle. As I went down I hit the back of my head at the side of a passing car going approx. 45mph. The driver never stopped or probably never knew what happened. A couple of other drivers that followed had stopped to check I was OK. The impact knocked the wind out of me for a few seconds but I brushed myself off and straightened out the bike enough to ride it back. Both my wheels where bent but it wasn't until I got home where I noticed how bad my helmet took the impact. The entire rear of my helmet was smashed pretty good. I figure I was lucky by not crashing a split second before any car was passing me. I had a splitting head-ache last night and I have to admit, the crash did shake me up a bit especially considering the worst that couldv'e happened.
I know we all enjoy riding and sometimes take it such as a routine but always be careful, wear a helmet and be aware that accidents do happen.

Yikes, glad you're mostly okay -- that could've been UGLY! Sheesh.
I'm sure everyone will chime in, and I'm no doctor, but watch yourself for signs of a concussion.

sounds like you took a wallup and are pretty lucky you still have a round skull if you truly hit a passing car with your knoggin. unfortunately, a helmet wouldn't have done much to save your bacon there.
don't drink any alcohol for a day or two and if the headache continues, see your doctor...
and watch out for railroad tracks.

I am glad nothing worse happened. I am surprised the car did not notice your impact on it:confused5: How is that possible?
I have always approached railroad tracks with caution and never really figured out what the limit of angle is that they can be crossed at. Some tracks on my daily rides cross the street diagonally and I often wait for traffic to be clear in my back to be able to cross them at a better angle.

Man, that was a close call, dude. Glad you're O.K, and you did'nt get your head smashed by that damn car. After reading your post I'll be sure to be more careful crossing RR tracks. "Sheesh"
But you are right though. We got to careful riding our bikes. :D

Wow, glad you are ok. I had to double read that line to make sure I read you right when saying your helmet hit the side of a car going 45mph. Damn.

Any time I read a post like this I think to myself, "there, but for the grace of God, go I." Accidents do happen, no matter how careful you are. May you heal quickly and give thanks that your ticket wasn't due to be punched that day.

Whew! I would've had to change my shorts, too. Glad to hear that you're, (basically) all right.
