I ride Speedplay X pedals with Sidi Genius shoes. It's been a small but nagging problem that I can't get the cleats far enough back to position the ball of my foot where I want it relative to the pedal spindle.

I've got the cleats all the way back toward the heel and the ball of my foot is still slightly behind the spindle. I would like to move the cleats 5-10 mm further back to get the ball of my foot a little bit forward of the spindle but there's no more room on the adapters. Does anyone else have this problem? What do you do about it?

Speedplay now make an aluminum base plate for the Zero cleat that has two sets of cleat mounting bolt holes. The extra set gives you about another cm of rearward adjustability over the standard plastic base plate. Now I don't know if the X series cleats use a different base plate to the Zero. Call the Speedplay customer service guys and ask about them and see if they will work for you.

Wow, this is the answer I've been looking for! Thanks.

I use Zeroes, and have the same problem that I can't really get the cleats far enough back. I've heard others say the same.

Why would anyone use X's? :)

2-sided road pedal, low stack height, adjustable float (if the zeros feel too skiddish for you). Plus they're competitively priced (with a Cro-Mo spindle they're very inexpensive).

Oh, smiley, sorry.

I ended up getting custom shoes. Even another 1cm wouldn't have made a difference. At what the top line Sidi's cost these days it's only a little more for custom.

The Zero and adjustable, the X series are not. yes the X's feel skittish to me.

Wait, you have it backwards. I have zeroes, I love all of the features you mentioned about them.

They're cheaper and the float doesn't bother me.

Speedplay Fore/Aft Extender Base Plate for $25.00.
Solid aluminum rather than plastic, so they add a bit of weight, but getting the spindle further back on my foot is well worth the trade off. Plus they seem to be quite a bit stiffer than the regular plastic ones.
