Can you identify what this is.. I think it says sora but hoping it doesn't.

Actually it is Tiagra. Sora looks like this...

Either Sora or Tiagra...My guess is Tiagra because the lettering curves around the lever. Sora doesn't have enough letters to do that.

i'm pretty sure it's Tiagra. The Sora name plates are black with white lettering.

besides, Sora shifters don't have paddles.

tiagra, sora doesn't have the paddles they have a can't shift from the drops thumb lever

Tiagra is the only 9 speed group anymore, so if you need a cassette, it'll have to be Tiagra.
Ps. I just saw something insane on the Shimano-europe site. They are offering an 11-25 cassette.(no 14 or 16 cogs), along with the usual 12-23, 12-25, 13-25, and 14-25.
