Hi,

I've been cycling for years, consistenly commuting mostly and did lots of MTB a couple of years ago, I'm 29 now. Been knocking out about 5k a year last couple of years on MTB as a commute, about 12 miles each way taking 40 mins through city. Aerobically I'm at a good high fitness level but still, no road cyclist. (prob makes no difference for choosing a bike anyhoo).

Changing to road bike anyway as the MTB just can't do that mileage, blown shocks again for a start, shoulda changed years ago but anyways.

LBS has 3 options for my price range, would appreciate advice on which and why :)

1) Trek 1000 (Discovery)
2) Giant SCR 3
3) Specialized Allez

I know all have similiar enough components and Sora is fairly sh1t for standing up to mileage it seems but I'm hoping they will upgrade components for me, will prob upgrade wheels to get these sealed bearing type ones due to mileage and the fact that i don't get time for regular maintenance.

Thanks in advance,

G :D

Just an update, I got a Giant Scr 2.0 '07. Tiagra all round and upgraded for stronger rims and sealed bearing hubs for the daily commute throught the rough city streets.

Will be posting here I expect in the future :)

now that you've ridden it some, how's it feel? i've got 250 miles on my new bike and i've been busy tweaking the fit. still happy with your choice?

Hi,

Have 90 miles on it in 4 days now, feels good. Not sure about saddle height at the mo', feels like I had a longer "stroke" on the mtb than on this bike which I don't think is right but will give it a while before I change anything. Thought my a$$ would be in bits from the racing saddle but no issues there

Size wise does feel fairly good, hard to tell at the mo' as I'm not used to road bikes. Lower back gets tired after a while but I have back issues so that's no different to the mtb, just push through it.

Been crazy windy here last few days so tough going on the bike, been knocking out similiar times to mtb in this wind so expect to knock a few mins off daily commute in normal conditions.

Few close calls already in the city with not being used to stopping as quick with the brakes, guess I'll get used to that.

I'm in Dublin, Ireland so dunno what the US bike is - I like it though :D
