Landis's lawyer has asked USADA to drop doping charges against him due to "inconsistencies" in the way things were handled.

Does this have any chance of success?

If he succeeds, will people "trust" him, or will it just create more doubt about the sport as a whole?

What else would you expect his lawyer to say?

Assuming they can find a technicality loophole, Landis needs to either disappear from active competetive cycling, or train his butt off to ensure he portrays at least a remotely comparitive performance next year. Given his need for hip replacement surgery this year, I (if ever asked, LOL) would advise the former.

I think he may find a way out of the charges, but this will taint the TdF for years to come and make it damn hard, given this dramedy and the Armstrong history, for American riders to be taken seriously. At least the other suspected dopers got nabbed before the race, and are way in the Landis shadows.

Sad, because we sure could have used a strong American successor to Lance.

... or train his butt off to ensure ...
... an exciting Mt. Washington hillclimb next year.

What else would you expect his lawyer to say?Yes, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

Assuming they can find a technicality loophole . . .What makes it a technicality? Is the failure of the lab to follow the procedures prescribed to ensure the reliability of the results--if there was such a failure--which has the consequence that those results are not deemed sufficient evidence for conviction, why is that a technicality?

From some quotes from some riders in the recent Procycling they are taken seriously - as dopers.
