I Just ordered a 2007 Lemond, Tourmalet. and was curious as to the performance of some of the Bontrager parts. Here is a list off the web site.

Fork- Bontrager Carbon
Headset - Integrated Sealed
Crank- Shimano 105 53/39(double), 50/39/30(triple)
Pedals- n/a
Front Derailleur- Shimano 105
Rear Derailleur- Shimano 105
Shift/Brake Levers- Shimano 105 STI
Cassette- Shimano 105 12-25, 10-speed
Wheel System- Bontrager Select wheelsystem
Tires- Bontrager Race Lite 700x23c
Brakes Cane Creek SC3 w/cartridge pads

My main concern is the wheels.... I know that the Shimano 105 groupo is good so I'm not worried about that stuff. I weigh in at 6' 2.5" , 225 lbs. so I am a little Nervous about getting on these wheels. also any info on the tires or should I just scrap them and go with my trusted Conti's? any info is a great help. Thanks:confused:

I'm riding an 06 LeMond Versailles. Carbon/steel spine, but spec'd with the same wheels as your Tourmalet. We're about the same size (I'm a hair shorter than you) and I'm riding a 59cm frame. I found that the tension in the Selects was a little low and got some noise out of the wheels. The LBS where I bought the bike took care of that.
I wanted something a bit stronger and lighter so I bought some Neuvation M28s for my daily riding. Still put the Bontragers on occasionally; they came with 25mm Race Lite tires, and they're a little more sluggish than the Michelin Carbons on my M28s.

I would not worry about the wheel set. I tip the scales at 225 and have not had a problem. I ride a Lemond Buenos Aires w/ the same wheel set and I have not had a problem. As for the tires I'd stick w/ the Conti's.
the tires hold up decently well and the wheels are somewhat strong. i have an 06 model tourmalet, and train on the stock wheels/tires (although the tires are about 2 months from the end of their lives, about 2k miles on them currently, want to get them through the season) but i also have a set of race day wheels and tires that i just got

I wouldn't NOT buy it because of the wheels. But if you ever do break a spoke you may not be able to ride it home. That is what I like about higher spoke count wheels. I have a pair of circuits and I rode about 5 miles after breaking a spoke before I even noticed it. I heard something pop but thought it was a rock. A 205 lb friend broke a spoke on his tempest and had to wait for a ride.
I'm 250+ so I assume broken spokes are inevitable. I just want to be able to limp home.
If you get the bike just keep in mind that you may want to change the wheels if you do start having a problem.

Well the bike got here and it rides like a dream. Very stiff yet so comfortabel. My only complaints are (1.) the saddle sucks...Why would you put seams on the outside of a saddle. ouch!!!
(2.) The tires are what you would expect bike mfg. to put on a bike. Pretty much rim protectors. they are a little squeemish even at high pressure.
The wheels are actually pretty nice. although I must say they are quite heavy for road rims. other than that. the bike is great. nice finish. although the internet pic does not show it the paint is actually metalic finish so in the sun it sparkles like the ruby slippers...... very nice indeed. The shimano 105 works flawless.... shifts are crisp and the crank is supper stiff. the bike accelerates like a track bike and desends like Sean Yeats in the Tour. The handling is quick and nimble althoug the breaks are a little weak. I think that replacing the pads with some shimano ones will remedy this. as soon as can I will post some pics...
Thank you all for all your info and help on choosing this ride....:)
