I've called a bunch of bike stores and rental places in the DC/NoVA area, and no one has a decent road bike for a long training ride. I'm going to be in the area next week for about 5 days and need to get a couple rides in.

Is it too much to ask if someone from the area would lend (or rent to) a 5'9" roadie a decent road bike to do a couple rides on? I'm a decent person with a professional degree and will be in the area with my pregnant wife and 3 year old daughter. I can forward anyone interested a resume...

I'm serious.

Does anyone rent MTB's? You could hit the C&O trail and have a great workout...

one could buy a bike at REI and then return it if they weren't too happy with it...

Bike the Sites rents "road bikes" for a daily rate. My own guess is that it's a low-end, worn out, generic aluminum frame equipped with Sora or Tiagra shifters. They don't list the bikes they rent, and only have a picture of a generic road bike (I couldn't even make out a logo or brand name) on their website. The other option is to ask a kind bike shop if they have a well-used demo bike you can do a long ride on. You'll probably want to keep any of that correspondence private, as no shop will admit in public that they offer such a service.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up doing some light jogging when in DC instead of riding.

I need to convince the wife to let me get a Ritchey Breakaway...
