First impressions, after dropping $600 for the crankset. Very nice looking, the black red color schema works well with my black red Specialized S-works Tarmac frame. Out of the box it weight 636g with everything. Claimed weight is 590g. Nevertheless, considerably less than the FSA or Dura Ace. Nice upgrade, very stiff. But here's the issue. Crank bolt stipped on second tightening. I had to pull the crank with a puller. I read a review by a German bike magazine that tested these cranks and they had the same problem. The bolt is very weak. Fortunately, the bolt stripped without getting stuck in the crank arm. I now use an FSA alloy bolt. Make sure to use a torque wrench and do not tighten above 40 Nm. Also, the bearings, when installed properly work very well but you have to get the cups installed just right. This is not your typical easy install. May be give your LBS a go on this one.

Beware of the breakage. I ride Stronglight CT2's, Stronglight makes the Time crank, and have not had any issues but there are reports of a lot of breakage. It appears to be loose chainring nuts so check to make sure yours are properly tight.

Had mine for two weeks and they looked really good on the new VXR, pedalling along happily in a bunch then a really loud crack and I have somehow cracked the chainring arm/bolt hole. Am going back to Record cranks.

I had a set on my cervelo carbon soloist and broke a set at the chainring spider were the chainrings attach.I loved my time cranks and raved about them being light 620 grams for the 175mm 50/36 asx titanium version and smooth.I had my set for less than 3 months.I was pedaling away from my house after getting the green light and snap what a shock.the distributor that I purchased then from BTI(bicycle technologies international) gave me full credit for them and offered a replacement for them and the time rep offered me a set of the newer improved version but I'll stick to a more reliable crankset there are better places to save weight. Before the breakage it was reccomended to change or lube the chainring bolts and the non drive isis bolt due to failure which I did.

just curious. my power meter (recent purchase) says i rarely put out more than 900 watts.
my NP is running about 285 on harder tempo rides--so i wonder if i have the weight or watts to worry?

After reading this post, I'll never use those cranks.

900... is that correct? Even one "horsepower" is only 749 watts or something.

I had the cranks on my cervelo soloist carbon which was my #1 bike for less than 4 months I only rode the bike about once a week for my fast paced rides of 45-90 miles,I removed the cranks and re-lubbed and re torqued every bolt to time specifications there was never any creaking or play in the cranks.my weight at the time started at about 195 lbs and went down to 185 lbs(my race weight is 180-185 lbs) I'm not harsh on my equipment at all and I thouroughly maintain my equipment.

I went to the time booth at interbike a few months after getting the cranks and spoke to the time rep about a weight limit and he said that there was no weight limit on the cranks and that the cranks were tested stronger and stiffer than dura ace or anything else on the market. No one else that I know with the cranks have had any problems other than creaking and changing the isis and chainring bolts but I warn the few other people I run into with the cranks. There is a new and improved version of the cranks coming version that I was offered by the time rep but I think I'll pass on them.

The cranks did look great on my soloist carbon I have since sold the soloist carbon and went back to the soloist aluminum which I use as my multi sport/tt bike I bought a Trek 6.5ssl aroound christmas which replaced the soloist carbon as my #1 bike and I also have another carbon bike(flyte srs 1) I use ritchey wcs carbon compact cranks(52/36) with a dura ace octilink bb on my trek and I never worry a crankset failing on me again

There seems to be a recall of the new 2007 ASX Titan Cranksets. The word is that the distributor for Time has asked everyone who has purchased these to send them back for a refund and no replacement. Time USA confirmed that they are asking for all of the cranks to be returned, but "do not know what the problem is."

Has anyone heard what is going on?

I haven't heard a thing but will follow up as I am waiting on my replacement crankset to arrive.

mine are not 2007, but 2005/6 and i emailed time via the time-sport website and they said there is no problem with them.
i won't likely keep them as i sold my vxrs and i don't really like putting time cranks on another bike

Mine too. They looked exactly the same as in that photo. I just replaced them with Campy Ultra Torque Compacts.

Those Time cranks are very expensive junk. One year old and every bolt hole busted loose and left me stranded 30 miles from home. :mad2:

I took delivery of a 2007 VXS with the crank above. I weigh 175 lbs, and am not particularly hard on a bike.
I put about 2000 km on the bike, and then the non-drive side crank arm (the star inside) became unbonded or cracked, such that the left crank arm spun around, and so was good for the trash.

Anyone else had that problem ? Rep will replace under warranty, but I am trying to figure whether the number of responses here is statistically significant and I should avoid this crank going forward, and replace with Ultra-Torque compact crank on my DuraAce bike. Apparently that set-up seems to work fine ??
Thanks.

I just experienced the exact problem on my 06' ATX non drive side.

I see a lot of failures on the crankside. if any of these users still have their non driveside crankarm and would like to sell, please respond or contact me @ stevejunker2002@yahoo.com. looking for 175mm. Time will not do anything to help and FSA now makes the time crank. Purachsed the Campy Record UT Crank and hoping for better results.
