View Full Version : Attn.:>>>Peoples that wear watches.
Scotty2Hotty 09-22-2006, 11:18 AM I swear my watch fits looser during the cooler weather. My watch is kind of heavy, so it's been bugging me lately because I feel it flopping all over the place.
Maybe I'm less sweaty (due to lower humidity/temps). Or maybe I am withering away (due to lack of cookie/cupcake consumption).
What should S2H do? Remove a half link? Eat more junk foods? Date von?
Anyone else have this problem? Comments/Advice/Insults?
chuckice 09-22-2006, 11:20 AM remove half a link...post pic of watch.
the_dude 09-22-2006, 11:21 AM wear leather or canvas straps, or be a man and use a sundial. floppy metal watches suck nuggets.
MR_GRUMPY 09-22-2006, 11:23 AM Buy a cheap Timex with a velcro strap .......and some cheap sunglasses.

I have this with the medium sized face and a quartz movement.

I'm not sure, but I think those smaller, half-sized links can come out.

chuckice 09-22-2006, 11:30 AM nice...looks like the 1/2 link on the left side of 2nd pic should come out. if the watch is really loose you might want to go for a full link. if you've never taken those things out before make sure to do it on a big table or something...the connecting rods can pop out hit the ground, roll and never be seen again.
Since it's a omega, and your stoopid, take it to a watch place to have the link removed.

The GF or the watch?
Keeping up with Junior 09-22-2006, 11:51 AM Just stuff some toilet paper (new) between the band and your wrist to snug up the fit. Bonus 1 - if you are at a race and the porta johns are out paper you wont have to use the $50 bill folded up in your wallet. Bonus 2 - if you decide to slit your wrist it wont be as messy.

If she stuffs her bra she can show you the secret folding/crumpling technique so the toilet paper has a more natural look and will fool the casual observer. Note that if you are in a USCF race then no crumpling or folding allowed - Rule 1K4(b).

you think that's bad...I have to actively resist the urge to post some innuendo here--it just cries out for it, doesn't it?
A happy wife is a great thing, especially after a long ride together.

Watches are so last millenium. Your blinged out cellphone tells the time, don't it? Git rid of the imitation watch.
Otherwise, the answer is simple. You should date Von.
chuckice 09-22-2006, 12:36 PM The GF or the watch?
the watch...and his pegoretti. i know he has one if he's all jacked up with that bling bling...
And then she will kill S2H. No need fer a watch when yer ded.
Enviro Mental 09-22-2006, 04:54 PM Actually as the temp gets colder, your body (fingers, wrists, etc) actually shrink. Check it with your rings also (bling, bling, etc). It sounded wierd to me too, but after 4 years of my wedding ring fitting tighter in the summer, and looser in the winter, I'm getting convinced.

Jeez, why don't you get a real He-Man watch like a Panerai or a Graham Chronofighter; instead of the little girly sized Omega.
Scotty2Hotty 09-22-2006, 06:14 PM Quartz movements are cheaper, more durable, more accurate, and require less maintenance. So there.

Repaired watches for about 10 years. Your watch band needs 1 link removed. Omegas are OK as far as running. Bottom line, quartz movement is what killed the high end watch market. Remember the really lame Pulsar commercials yeah, they were funny.
If you want bling as far a watches....Omega aint the way. I believe they still make a transparent chrono watch which is a steal at a mere 8 grand. OR you could get a 75 buck Timex and have pretty mucvh the same reliability as a 3 grand Omega. Yeah, I can see why it makes sense to drop the extra 2900 bucks. Hey, you have any more extra money you want to piss away? :D

Well brainiac, if they are not a licensed OImega dealer, it could void his warranty. Yes, they are that picky, yes I agree that if you drop that kind of scratch on a watch, it should fit. Kind of like 8 grand bikes and the folks who dont fit on them at all. Oh uts too short, tall flexy etc etc etc etc etc etc etc Hey, genius is pain......
A cheap, durable and accurate watch can be found in any Happy Meal
I tend to look at watches, like cycling, as functional works of art. Unfortuneatley most of the artwork of watches are encased and hidden from plain view.

that's not blingy/flashy tho...just a damn nice watch.
Scotty2Hotty 09-23-2006, 05:12 AM ttug and JaeP, what I said about quartz movements--totally sour grapes. If I had it to do over again, I'd chose the auto.
I didn't want too much bling--that's why I chose the Omega--they're more understated than Rolex.
I think a non-Omega dealer might void the warranty, but my warranty ended about 5 years ago, so maybe I'll just have my dirty jackal of a girlfriend do it.
And here's a pic of the underside of my case, just because it happens to be on my hdd. This is my favorite part of this watch.

One should always be drunk, that's all that matters,
On wine, on poetry, or on virtue as you choose.
But get DRUNK!
And if at some time you are waking up when drunkeness has already abated, ask the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock what time it is.
And the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock will reply:
It is time to get drunk!
So as not to be the martyr of slaves of time, get drunk, get DRUNK and never pause for rest,
On wine, on poetry, or on virtue
As you choose.

do you appreciate a really nice bike? no different for a watch...you don't need to give a crap about time to enjoy a nice timepiece.

Yes, your 5 year is done. BUT, you can still get a service agreement which will be decent as far as raw retail on the repair of your watch. The best watch I have owned was a 1967 Seiko Sports which was cool as my old man owned it and the watch keeps great time as it was the first start at Seiko for Kinetic movement and the "watch you dont have to wind". Big stuff in 1967.
As to your specific watch, yes you have a Seamaster its a great watch and dont get me wrong, I would certainly wear that with pride. HOWEVER, care for the thing properly for crissakes. Rolex, DO NOT GET ME STARTED on Rolex. They are a great watch, but again, once quartz hit the market, most folks are buying status, not a time piece. The Happy Meal remark in this thread is not off base. In theory, a Happy Meal Watch, with a decent battery install could very well keep great time that sadly, would actually compete with and exceed the performance of your Omega.
Thats why if you get a watch, go nuts make it count and get something you like and means something to you.
Scotty2Hotty 09-23-2006, 01:17 PM HOWEVER, care for the thing properly for crissakes.
I do, I always have it serviced where I bought it and I always get the seals changed even though I don't swim with it.
I probably won't let my girlfriend mess with it...

How are you disagreeing with me? It sounds like you whole heartedly agree. I dono about taking it to a OImega dealer, he should probably take it to a Omega dealer, or atleast that's what I would do.
As for the fit, it sounds like it fits in the summer and not in the winter.
Touch0Gray 09-24-2006, 06:32 PM fwiw........Omega is imported by Swatch now and ONLY certified Omega repair shops can buy even a leather band.... I use to be able to get them as a jeweler, but no more.............
