I am a newbie and having difficulty attaining the neutral knee position on my new Cervelo soloist 51cm. I am 5' 7" with a 30.5" inseam. The only way to get a neutral knee position is to move the seat all the way forward. Is it possible my femur is just too short to attain a neutral position? Is it ok if my knee stays back of the spindle or should I just move my seat all the way forward? BTW, the seatpost is in the regular back facing position.

Also, I think I am in good position otherwise. I don't see the front hub when riding on the brake hood. Slightly bent arms. I feel comfortable...this might be the most important thing.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

KOPS (knee over pedal spindle) is only just a starting point. If you feel comfortable and properly fitted with your knee behind the pedal spindle (with pedals at 3 and 9 o'clock o' course) then I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

That's what I figured. :)

I have a similar issue. I use a zero setback seatpost with the saddle in the middle of the rails. Seems to work.

If you're having to slide it all the way forward to get the proper fit and adjustment, I'd consider going with a 0 setback seat post. I ran into a similar situation where I had my saddle all the way back to make my knee position comfortable and work for me. As a result, I ended up swapping seat posts around and use a setback on that bike to get the proper fit. The rule that I was told is that you want the seat post to clamp in the middle of the rails whenever possible. This will allow the saddle rails to flex properly and provide the designed level of support.
