Robbie59 09-23-2006, 02:15 PM I didn't think you could just copy a manufacturer's logo and sell it.
Alter Ego 09-23-2006, 07:57 PM Pretty cool idea, I may get one with my name.
I am The Edge 09-24-2006, 06:23 AM who wants MORE decals?

You can't without breaking the law.
Vetallist 09-24-2006, 08:03 AM No Motobecane decal :( :( :(

Cog Neato 09-24-2006, 04:34 PM Alter Ego: As a sign of good faith, I'll make a pair for you and send 'em off in the mail.
If you like them, you can send me ten bucks. Just let me know with a PM, what you'd like them to say, the color, and maximum length. (and perhaps some sort of font style direction). Oh, and your mailing address too.
Cheers.
Tell us more about them... how thick are they... can they be clearcoated over.... do they peel off easily?
Cog Neato 09-24-2006, 07:27 PM It is the same vinyl film that is widely used for most signage - like vehicle lettering etc.
There are generally two different grades of vinyl. The better stuff is actually made in a different way and is thinner than the the cheaper grade. I only use the good stuff for these.
Many bike companies used these for years, but because of the enormous quantities that major maunfacturers require, most have gone to a "printed" decal which they then usually clear-coat over. You can clear-coat over these too, but I like the idea of applying them on top so you can remove them in the future if desired. They are really sticky, but are easily removed. (Again, just like vehicle lettering).
good question!
Cog Neato 09-25-2006, 09:58 AM you should post pics of what they look like on the bike to give us an idea of the finished product.
Good idea. Unfortunately I haven't been taking photos of the ones I've done locally, and most get sent by mail, but here's a couple.
mdewitt71 09-25-2006, 12:52 PM I just sent you an email.

cyclegirl 09-26-2006, 07:51 AM I just got some decals made and couldn't believe the awesome service I received!! In the mail the same day as ordered. Emails were answered within minutes of sending them. I can't wait to get them! Thanks again.
Paris_Metro 09-26-2006, 07:56 AM Why would you want your name plastered on your ride? Isn't that akin to having your name sewn into your underwear? Just a warning, I'm more likely to steal your bike if you have your name on it. Sorry

i'm thinking about getting some for my zipps. I remove their logos. (hey i'll keep them when i'm not buying!) but if one of them ends up in the wheel truck i'd like to get it back.
as for putting it on the frame, well thats just 'racing fashion'
its not like you can't take it off if you sell it
not quite the same as the name on the underware, besides, no underwear under bibs!
cyclegirl 09-26-2006, 09:00 AM Actually I didn't get my name, but my bike's name Pinky. It is only 1 inch tall so really I will be the only person to notice it.
MR_GRUMPY 09-26-2006, 09:54 AM If you have your name painted on your top tube, under the clear coat, it means that you had the bike made for you. If you stick a decal on the top tube, it means that you want people to think that you had the bike made for you.
The only possible reason to get this, that I can see, is to have all the members of your racing team to put the "team" name on their bikes.
mdewitt71 09-26-2006, 10:34 AM I already have him working on a cool tribal design to cover the "tacky" logo on my wifes Leader frame.
Cog Neato 10-26-2006, 01:12 PM I've noticed a number of people inquiring about decals lately, so I thought I'd give this a bump.

Way to get a little free advertising for your cheap wares Neato. I've made a really cool bike frame out of PVC pipe. Do you have any Colnago decals so I can sell it on fleabay?
Cog Neato 10-26-2006, 03:23 PM Good thing you're not bitter. Geesh.

SPINDAWG 10-26-2006, 03:40 PM Victory Circle Graphix offers some nice stuff.I've used them in the past. Even offer the Discovery Team Style in packs of ten with choice of background colors and country flag options.
Mel Erickson 10-26-2006, 03:58 PM When was the last time you used Victory? I inquired a while ago and was told they were too busy for such a small order.
atpjunkie 10-26-2006, 04:01 PM Good thing you're not bitter. Geesh.
but all kinds of folks use fake decals to fake 'nice bikes' to sell. It's why legitimate bike refinishers have to have all the actual skinny on your ride before they will rebadge it.
and yes, my guess is you are committing copyright infringement and should be thusly warned. I'd stay away from reproducing mfr labels without their consent.

Really? I used them back in June. They gladly took my money for just the pack of ten stickers.
jabpn 10-26-2006, 05:28 PM You really should beware of the trademark logo copyright. I would just call the most common companies and ask them for the permission to use their logo in your decal design. I would wait for the lesser known brands until needed and then call them. I do like your offering though and don't mind the post.
bike_guy 01-09-2007, 08:53 AM I'm trying to send a PM about the decals, but your Inbox is full and is not accepting any more PM's.

You can purchase software packages which include hundreds or thousands of manufacturer logos for use in signs. It would take too freakin' long to re-draw the logos anyway in Illustrator or a sign program, so I'm guessing the OP has a copy of the software.
bike_guy, you can go to any local sign shop and they'll do the exact same thing this guy does. Just make sure you use the premium vinyl - it's thinner and shinier.
Cog Neato 01-09-2007, 04:01 PM Thanks for the support Girchy. As it turns out, I have spent a tremendous amount of time collecting/generating the hundreds of bike logos, any local sign shop will charge a lot more just to generate or scan & clean-up a logo. They generally regard these little pesky jobs a pain and charge handsomely.
