Just bought this frame off ebay. NOS frame and fork found hanging in a warehouse in belguim. Seller did not really offer any details. Took a chance anyway and got it cheap. Very nice looking frame with nice lug work. Trying to determine the age of frame. North American Moser distributor says he has never seen a Moser frame like this but they only started with Moser in 1990. Only number stamped on bottom bracket is 57. I have sent email to factory in Italy but no response. Figure somebody hear may know something.

It's a Moser "Sprint" model, and came in a nice pumpkin-gold color. It's lugged, with full-length horizontal dropouts and a pretty slack seat angle, chrome fork crown....

...Sorry. I couldn't resist. Nice frame.

Judging from the long horizontal dropouts, cable guides on top tube and BB, and flat fork crowns, I would say the frame is circa 1985 or older. Nice frame. How much did it cost you with shipping?

I paid $175 with shipping...

No tubing decal on frame, according to the seller it is Columbus. Frame and fork weigh in at 4 lbs 12 oz or 2150 grams, so its no light weight...

you might take a look inside the tubes, for any distinguishing marks... the SLX spiraling comes to mind, but I think the frames predates SLX

The Moser factory did respond to my email. They confirmed that the bike was built in 1980. They did say though that this was not the original color and that the logo stickers had been replaced. The bike should have been either blue or white and the logo should have been FRANCESO MOSER not just MOSER.

The seller on ebay did have a few other frames as well and they where also in various and some really strange colors!!. Could be somebody bought up a bunch of frames and repainted them... Not sure how they ended up hanging in a wharehouse in belguim though....

So now my decision is should I build it up as a period piece or should I do a retro-mod??

Thats cool that you found out the history... I have had three Mosers in the last 10 years (currently riding the scandium laser and have a Leader AX frame not built). I vote that you build it with period components....

2150g for the frame alone - it's highly likely to made from Columbus Cromor: http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/columbus/columbuschart.htm

A mid-range tubeset.
