Anyone have any insight into the Tufos Tub/clincher tires? I am trying to avoid the full on tubular set-up and was wondering if these were worth it? Currently running Mich Mud 2s and like them but I need something that I can run lower pressure on.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great. Thanks.

I liked them. Primary advantages are lightweight (300g) no pinch flats, and ability to run sealant in them. The only disadvantage I found was that they don't corner well in muddy conditions.

I am going to build tubular wheels, so I plan to sell my Tufo's on e-bay. I used them for six races last year, so i'd rate the tread as 8/10. They are in very good condition. No cuts in the tread or sidewall. Tufo C Elite LPS. Red w/ black sidewall. 30mm width. 300g per tire. New ones are $75 on cyclocrossworld.com. I'd sell the pair for $95 + shipping if someone wants them. Send me an e-mail to eric.burns@owen.vanderbilt.edu.

and you'll find various opinions on these tires, but I think the bottom line is that they have at best a marginal benefit over clinchers. IMHO, the biggest problem with them is that they are only available in a 30c and on many course where you would want lower pressure, you will also want higher volume than these afford. There is also the disconcerting issue of the rubber beads pulling out when the pressure is as low as I would normally run on a tubular.
