View Full Version : Abramoff reaches deeper into the White House

the major piece of news comes from this quote:
Mehlman said he had known Abramoff since the mid-1990s and would listen to his requests along with those of other influential Republicans.
"I know Jack," Mehlman said. "I certainly recall that if he and others wanted to meet I would have met with them, as I would have met with lots of people."
compare this to his earlier characterization of his and the White House relationship to Abramoff:
"Abramoff is someone who we don't know a lot about. We know what we read in the paper."
someone appears to have something to hide here.
rocco 10-15-2006, 12:48 PM Perhaps it depends on what "we" means.

The GOPP can't seem to get anything right. Now a scathing book shows just how they've manipulated the Religious Right while laughing at them.
Perhaps the apologists are starting to pay attention to facts? I haven't seen a post from Steamy in a while. Might mean he can't put his ethics aside any longer?
atpjunkie 10-15-2006, 04:42 PM finally facing up to this stuff this late in the game is going to be really painful. You will feel like the grandest of idiots, if you were any bit psychologically unstable it could be tragic. I think that is why so many that are left hang on so hard, and so vehemently. To face up to the facts at this late in the game pretty much puts you at the back of the intellectual short bus.

actually, I'd guess that he's just too embarassed to try to justify this crap.
that, or good Captain Ed hasn't quite figured out the requisite response for all this just yet.
I often wonder what a person such as Washington would think of crap like this. I mean the guy put so much effort into maintaining his reputation and into being disinterested that it came close to crippling him at times.
atpjunkie 10-16-2006, 11:24 AM in regards to the North Marianas deal. Since they were getting the "Made in the USA" deal done by slave labor, forced abortion and prostitution, etc.. a guy tried to get the protectorate to follow US Labor laws. He was fired. Guy behind thhe firing? Ken Mehlman and I guess there are e-memos showing it, he did it for Balck Jack, oh and he did it for a couple U2 tickets. Talk about doing the dirty work for cheap. Hopefully he took KP to the concert.

Let's be careful. When a dog runs off and you beat it for it's crime when it returns, it doesn't learn not to run off, it learns not to come back. The same goes for finger pointing and "I told you so". If some of these people start to see and openly admit that the wool has been pulled over their eyes then let's just be happy with that. Lets not polarize things any further. I'm not trying to lecture you, although I'm sure it will appear that I am. That's just how I see it.
Seriously though, I think they are just laying low for a while. On the lamb untill this all blows over.

we've lost a few righties over the years as they've finally seen what is plain to see. They tend to just quit posting. I am actually concerned because folks in any really deep state of denial when finally having to confront it is terribly painful. In this case their denial wires directly to their ego. All they've held to be right and true turns out to be a big old nasty sham. Like finding out there's no Santa Claus on an adult level. They'll never admit they are wrong (in public) too much of their persona is tied into them being right (which is why they fight so nastily now). I don't know abbout you but IMHO PO has slowed to a crawl of late as the last if the righties disappear, and my guess is these last few blasts are pretty much gonna do it. Most that were left were 'moral righties' and they've found out that not only is the morality of thhe right a sham, it is a willful sham being perpetrated upon them by people whom they respected but now know look upon them with utter contempt and disdain.
FondriestFan 10-16-2006, 12:49 PM Mehlman is a disgusting individual. I can't tell which one is more slimy, Mehlman or Scott McClellan.
