View Full Version : Fork chatter

I've read some of the previous posts on this issue. I just put new koolstop pads on my redline conquest 60 cm with aluminum fork. I bought it last year and have avid 4 brakes. The original pads chattered the fork like crazy until I used fairly extreme toe-in. Problem solved but I burned through the pads fairly fast because the front 15% of the pad did most of the braking. I just put the new pads on and they chattered like crazy until I did the radical toe-in - problem solved again. It seems like there should be a better solution. Does anyone have suggestions for pads that don't chatter much? Will using a brake booster help? I don't think I'll spend any money on a new fork. Thanks.

I presume you checked to see if your headset was tight...

i'd toe the brakes in but do it gently, also skuffing up the brake pads might help it a little

Try using shorter pads. The koolstop have a lot of surface contact with the rims. I switched mine with Aztec brake on the front brakes ... chatter stopped. (course I use Paul brakes) but pretty sure its the same problem.

Other people I know have cut the koolstops down as alternative.
