Hi everyone,

I've been riding mtb for 16 years or so but just tried a couple of local cyclocross races of a series and had a lot of fun. The group was kind enough to let me enter with a mtb, but their rule is you don't count in the standing unless you have 700c wheels. Actually, I'm not competitive enough to care about the standings but I just feel like a big cheater with my big nobbies since it's been so muddy lately. And, you know, when you do a bunch of races of a series it's always interesting to look at the standings. So, okay, I guess I do care about the standings. :p

So, I want to jump in to the hobby without spending much so am looking at used stuff. My main problem right now is I have no idea what size bike or size frame I should look for.

I'm 5-11 and am comfy on a 19" mountainbike. Any idea what size cx bike/frame I should be looking for? Is there some conversion for a 19 inch mtb frame to a ? cm cyclo-cross frame?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

from your height alone i can give you an estimate but frame size does depend on other factors like limb length as well as your height. with that said, i would say you are probably looking at roughly a 56cm frame.

that should be about right, maybe something smaller even?

im 5'8" i ride a 52cm cross bike that is a bit stretched out for me. i could be on a 50 with a longer stem (or just get a shorter stem for my 52).

i ride a 53cm road bike if that helps.

I've been wondering about sizing as well. I ride a 58cm road (which is over 22inches) but ride a 17.5 inch mtn. bike. I was thinking I might like a 50-52cm (19.6in.) cross frame, thus allowing better turning with the smaller frame. Position over the bb as well as leg extension should be able to be adjusted to fit me and Eff. Top Tube length can be fiddled with via stem length. I guess my question is whether or not sizing a cross bike more like a mtn. bike rather than a road bike okay, especially since I predominatly mtn. bike?
