Cycling Legend to Coach Athletes and Serve as Director of Camps
(Mill Valley, CA – November 1, 2006) – Endurance Performance Training Centers, the Bay Area’s leading training and testing facility, is excited to announce that Laura Charameda has joined their team. Charameda brings her vast experience as a professional athlete and coach to Endurance PTC’s science-based training services. Charameda’s primary duties will be as a one-on-one coach and as an instructor in Endurance PTC’s revolutionary indoor cycling class, eCyclingTM. In addition, she will organize group cycling clinics and direct Endurance PTC’s camp schedule, including their Tour of California camp scheduled for February 2007.
“I’ve followed Laura’s career as both an athlete and coach for years and I am thrilled that she is able to join our team,” said Charlie Livermore, Endurance PTC partner and Director of eCyclingTM. “Her accomplishments as an athlete and coach as well as her passion for athlete development, particularly with junior cyclists and female elite athletes, make her a great addition to Endurance PTC.”
As a cyclist, Charameda has split her time between the San Francisco Bay Area and Italy while racing for a number of American and Italian teams. Her racing results include multiple stage wins at the women's Tour de France, a medal at the World Road Racing Championships, a spot on the Olympic Team, and two National Criterium titles. As a leader on Italy’s famed Sanson Gelati Team she twice won the overall title at the Giro of Sicily. With more than 250 cycling victories in her career, Charameda has won more road cycling events than any other North American cyclist in history.
Charameda’s coached athletes have ranged from absolute beginners to world class athletes. Some coached clients include: Katheryn Curi, the 2005 U.S. National Women’s Road Race Champion; Steve Cozza, a graduate of the Team Swift program who has gone on to win a U.S. National Championship and is a member of the U.S. National U23 team; and Nathan Miller, another Team Swift graduate who has just signed on with the BMC Racing Team. Charameda also held directing positions with multiple women’s cycling teams.
In addition to her duties with Endurance PTC, Charameda will continue her work as executive director of Team Swift, a nonprofit organization based in Sonoma County, California. Team Swift brings resources and guidance to 10-18 year old cyclists, starting with their first cycling experiences and continuing through the USA National Team level.
