View Full Version : Bush radio address.

"Whatever your opinion of the outcome, all Americans can take pride in the example our democracy sets for the world by holding elections even in a time of war,"
What is this guy talking about? This quote actually makes little or no sense to me. For most of us, the "war" that is going on in Iraq has not affected many of things in no direct sense of the word. Why would a war stifle out voting? It never has before, and wouldn't anytime soon. I'm sure that Bush II was thinking that indeed, maybe we shouldn't have elections, because he felt the impending loss.
Other nuggets of wisdom from this guy's radio address was that "Iraq is the central front in the war on terror." How many times can he repeat this before people stop believing him? I just keep wondering how we elected this arsehat for a second time. It makes me shake my head in frustration every time I see him on the TV, in print, or just in general. I can't wait for 2008 when the democrats take back the White House. It's going to be sweet. Why do I think the dems are going to take it in 2008? People will be even more sick of George Bush and the things that he's done by the time the election rolls around, and they have 2 more years to be reminded of his ineptitude. He's the best chance we have for getting a dem elected in 2008. Keep talking George, your approval ratings will continue to drop, and you'll be an excessively lame duck President when this is all said and done.

I have little doubt that he and his "team" looked hard for a way to suspend the elections. It would fit in perfectly with their MO to date.

I'm sure that they did. I wonder how the apologists for the Bush administration would spin that one if they had suspended elections somehow? Not likely to happen, but I'm sure they tried to find some loophole in the Constitution they could slip through. Would Bush apologists and fans then say that he was taking away our rights? Probably not. We would have heard something like, "Well, if the dems got elected, they would allow Muslim invaders into our country, and they would let all the terrorists go free, and we would have attacks all over the country. So indeed, I can see why the Bush administration didn't allow the elections, because the democrats are too dangerous to let them run the country!!"
I could imagine something like that on Rush, Savage, or some similar radio talk show, or Fox News.

I would hope that if Bush suspended elections that the 69% that does not approve of him, would atleast start to riot, if not start to excercise their 2nd amendment rights a lot more, nothing like a violent uprising to get your point across.
Henry Porter 11-12-2006, 07:57 AM You really listen to those radio addresses? I thought people stopped doing that with the advent of televison. You ought to spend more time elsewhere and avoid the unhealthy obsession with President Bush.

So the spin is that we just shouldn't watch what the president says? Jesus.
atpjunkie 11-12-2006, 08:03 AM they don't pay attention either, to what he says or does
how else does a Pres run rough shod over a country without party, nor Congressional members even asking questions or oversight?
see they still wanna play 'Shut up, we're running the show" but they ain't.
Bush is at best a lame duck and yes he still wakes up in the WH but he now wonders "For how long?"
Oxtox 11-12-2006, 08:48 AM You ought to spend more time elsewhere and avoid the unhealthy obsession with President Bush. We'll all most likely wake up tomorrow and he'll still be there.
believable...
People need to be diligent and analyze every word and action that comes from this Admin...the obsession is not ours, but theirs. They are apparently hell-bent to gut the Constitution and diminish personal liberties, all under the guise of fighting the terrorists...
But, no need to be concerned with a little domestic surveillance, some tinkering with voting machines, possibly suspending elections, or other minor details. Hey, the Bushman knows best, right?
Thankfully, the advice to 'pay no attention to the man behind the curtain' was obviously not heeded by a large number of recent voters.
spyderman 11-12-2006, 09:12 AM Suspending elections is usually the second step after a military coup. It's a major step in authoritarian rule.
IMHO, Bush was mearly referring to how that occurs in other nations.
Of course, it's fun to speculate Herr Karl's further attempts at power grabbing...

That is so BS. The man made a statement in reference to our example of how Democracy works and here we go again, calling him some kind of Stalin wannabe. This is why this board gets so damned vehement, these wild and unsubstantiated vilifications of one side or the other. Traitor, why do you hate America?

The answer to your question is John Kerry.

If Bush had the slightest clue how American democracy is designed to work I may be willing to accept your call of BS. Instead, Bush is a monarchist who sees the Legislative branch existing merely to legitimize the Executive's directives.
I don't think I ever compared him to Stalin.
Oh, and I wasn't villifying Republicans in general. Only the smacktard in the WH.

We are in a time of War = fact.
We had elections = fact.
He (Bush) put some words together, formed a sentence stating the obvious = fact.
We were attacked on 9/11/01 and that impacted/delayed some mayoral primary election in NYC, I think.
http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:B-tC7mYIMjIJ:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closings_and_cancellations_following_the_September _11,_2001_attacks+september+11+2001+was+election+d ay+in+new+york+city&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=5
I do listen to them. Why? Because even though I can't stand to listen to him most of the time, I still think what the President is saying is important. Don't you think it's important to listen to the President's weekly message? I mean, you're a fan and all. I'd think you'd be hanging on every word. It's not an unhealthy obsession to listen to our President speak and talk of the state of the nation, and where he thinks we ought to be going. And if I disagree with it, can't I talk about that as well? Or would you rather just have people who oppose things shut and sit down? Sometimes, I find you to be unbelievable.
Also, it's easy enough to listen to them, I download them, and play them whilst I'm riding my bike. Same for Meet The Press, Tony Snow's daily briefings, and other news information. I think it makes me a better informed person, and lets me know what our administration is up to.
Fact: We are not in a war. No declaration of war has been given, only an authorization of force to be used against Iraq.
Fact: The war on terror isn't so much a "war" as it is a police action against a small group of fundamentalists scattered throughout the world.
Fact: We had elections, and the democrats won.
Fact: Bush rarely makes sense on good days, and his incessent ranting about 9/11 in almost every speech his given since that time does not endear him to the American people. I'm pretty sure he could give a speech about say, medicare, and somewhere in there, he's going to talk about 9/11. It's silly, and doesn't apply to most of his rantings. It sure does't apply to the "war" in Iraq. As the 2 are not related.
Fact: Yes, indeed we were attacked on 9/11, by men from places that we're fighting against like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and the UAE. Oh wait? We're not fighting terrorists there? Wait? How come? We must have gotten the guy who planned this attack right? We haven't?!? WTF?
Fact: The democrats won Congress last week. Time for you to "shut up" as I've been told many times before on this board by certain people of your ilk.

What? You mean I've been foregoing nylons and saving war bonds for nothing? And what of the children? I told them no butter until V-I day. 'Cepting we supposedly had that a couple of years ago, so the kids are confused.
Malcog 11-14-2006, 12:52 AM Bush radio ?
Back in the days when Britain actually made things, the biggest company that made radios was Bush. So most of us Brits owned a Bush radio.
