View Full Version : Anyone else have NOISE issues with theri Soloist Team?
azdroptop 11-12-2006, 10:41 AM First let me say I love the bike. Stiff, fast, great climber and good for TT's. I've put on 2600 miles since getting it in June and I have been chasing noises on and off from the begining. I realize it's aluminum and going to be a bit noisy over bumps, poor roads etc, but I'll have quiet periods of say 200 to 300 miles inbetween noises. My campy carbon crank bolts get loose rather ofter- they are still square, and bolts loosen up and are the cuase sometimes. Currently I'm going crazy trying to find a semi-rythmic noise. All bolts are tight, I just changed cables-noise is decreased, gressed bolts, regreased the BB, trued the wheels, tightened my cleets etc. I'm getting close to taking off my groupo and selling the frame. Any help or others going through this?

This is maybe a bit left-field but could it be a creaky seatpost or saddle? I had a mystery noise that behaved almost the same way with my alu crit/rain bike - a rhythmic creak that came and went and drove me bananas. After several goes at pulling and regreasing the bb/cranks/chainring bolts and oiling spoke nipples and eyelets (have you tried that yet?) , it turned out to be a bit of stiction between the seat tube and alu seatpost. The seatpost would flex a little and creak in the seat tube, only while pedalling so it sounded like a mechanical noise. Thoroughly cleaning and regreasing the seat tube and seatpost fixed it. I had a friend with a similar noise coming from a carbon post - couldn't regrease but a light rub-down of the post with 800 grit emery paper fixed his problem.
Another thing you might look at - I had a similar semi-rhythmic noise a while back on another bike - turned out to be a squeak coming from the saddle rail where it inserted into the saddle shell - a drop or two of light oil fixed it.
Both a bit left-field but worth a try?

Excellent suggestions all around. I have had seat post issues as well and it may be I need to regrease the bolts and were the post attaches to the seat. I'm using a carbon post and the soloist uses a small brass shim to keep it tight. I'll mess with the seat more tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to write.:D
cat4rider 11-13-2006, 04:52 AM We've got a Soloist in the group, and occasionally we have problems with noise as well. We finally diagnosed it last week during the Sunday right as his gasping, wheezing attempts to keep up....no, really, it was the seat post and I think that he followed the same steps and re-lubed it, thus ending the creak, but not all the wheezing.

LOL :)
Cervelo 11-13-2006, 06:30 PM I have a Soloist and a P2SL and have had a noise on both of them exactly like you are describing and in both cases I took the seat post head off and took out all the bolts and lubed and retorqued them. I have had to do this twice on my Soloist in the last three years actually and it has always gotten rid of the noise immediately.
I am 99% sure that doing this will take of yours also. A Cervelo is way to good a bike to ever sell.:)

Thank you. I reoiled the seat 'area' again and though my ride was short and mello today(century on Sat) I didn't notice the dreaded noise today. :)
