Just means the the crown of the fork is wider than on a "normal" fork. Depending on your choice of headset, you may have a little "shelf" showing. Might look dorky, but it will work just fine.

The HSC5 is the one exception, where it will not mate with a conventional headset, since the crown race is built into the fork. If you can find a conventional headset that uses a cartridge bearing with a 36 degree angle, like that on an IS standard integrated HS, then you're in business.

The built in fork crown race shouldn't be an issue: it's nothing that can't be taken care of with a little anti-freeze, 40 wt. ball bearings, and 10 minutes with a Sawzall and a bench grinder.

If you want one to practice that grinding on first I'll gladly sell you my cracked HSC5SL at a good price!

Cracks in the stem clamping area can often be repaired. Any place else, forget it.

Can't be repaired. It is a crack below the crown about where the brakes are. I went down pretty hard at speed ending with a nasty encounter into a concrete wall on a bridge. Damn concrete expansion joints!!
