Do you guys put grease or lube in your shimano shifters. I was writing my essay for English and while taking a short break this idea popped in my head...just wondering if it is a good idea or not. We tend to lube and grease everything else so why not shifters? The internal part of the shifter looks like it could use some kind grease/lube. If so which would be better grease or lube? If no, why not?
Thanks

Spray the internals with WD40 or a similar product to keep them clean but don't otherwise lube or grease them. Grease or oil will only attract dirt and clog up the works. The small amount of lube in WD40 is plenty. If you do want to lube use a very light lube like sewing machine oil. Don't use grease.

I agree with Mel above. I've had good luck with WD40 for STI innards. I use the small plastic tube and hose out the shifters with plenty of WD. It's not so much a lube as it is a cleaner and solvent. STI's worst enemies are dirt, water, and dried grease. WD40 works on all of those.

Ditto.. FWIW, I spray it with teflon.. a LITTLE... Might be too much but hey, no problems so far...

first spray with degreaser, like White Lightning, to flush the original packing grease, then spray with triflow.
