I need some help/assistance. I'm finishing a fixed speed conversion (its really pretty..I'll post pics soon) and just build everything but the wheelset this past weekend.
My problem is this...when the frame came back from the powdercoaters, they assumed the steel frame was going to be a continued multi-speed bike so they didn't paint the
downtube shifter bosses...so I have two unpainted hunks of steel on either side of my down tube. No big deal until they start to rust...
so, does anyone here know of any clever ideas to either cap those things or somehow otherwise keep them from rusting?? I would think painting would be out of the question unless I could do one hell of a tape job...
You could get two STI cable stops (Harris Cyclery has them). These fit over and are screwed onto the downtube shifter bosses. There are two versions. One fits flush against a round, smaller tube as on an traditional steel bike. The other fits against a flattish shifter boss surface as on a Cannondale. You could remove the cable housing ferrules to give you a cleaner look.

Go to an autoparts store and check out their custom valve caps. Dice look real nice. All you hve to do is epoxy them over the boss

That's what I did with my two SS conversions.

is a fine idea...I have no idea why I didn' t think of that. I've got a few laying around the home LBS, so I'll see if they fit. thank you!
