View Full Version : Good Summer Road Races in midwest?
ineff 11-15-2006, 07:34 PM Hey Guys,
I'm looking for recommendation on some good RR in the Midwest. Maybe some smaller races with good $$$.
I'm a young aspiring CAT 3 (will be a 2 by spring, I just need to send it in) I'd like to try to ad up some USCF points if I can.
I did about 40 races over the summer. And I'm looking for more/better races. This coming year. I already will do/did, Super week, elk Grove, Downers, proctor, Nature Valley GP...
Any recommendations? Preferably USCF races.

You're a Cat 3 but don't know the good races?
Anyways, Proctor, Downers, Elk Grove were all nice. Mills Apple Farm RR has a great course. That's earlier in the year. Hillsboro-Roubaix RR is a great season opener, lots of short, steepish hills, etc. It's supposed to be one of the harder courses around.
Memorial Day Weekend races are big. There's 4, up around Rock Island/Rockford (I think Rockford... not sure.). Those races are hard and fast, excellent crits.
Elgin Cycling Classic was nice too. Although it was in the rain, and they had a U-turn right into a big hill, so you'd slow down to like 12mph before hitting a 4 or 5 block long climb... bleh. Sufferfest, but fun!!!

ineff 11-16-2006, 01:32 PM I do know of good races. however, i'm always looking to replace the races I don't like as much for with a race I've never done!
also, i'm really looking for some longer Road Races. like 80miles+
I did the Memorial day weekend races too. those are always a good time.
estone2, who do you race for? and what catagory? you seem like you did a lot of racing over the summer. are you 16 (like your profile says)?

80 miles sounds terrible. What are the ones you liked other'n the ones you named?
I raced this season for C-U Racing, out of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. I was on a red Trek 1200. Here's me, if there's a chance you recognize me. http://cyclingphotonews.com/Proctor%20Criterium/PCC2006/JNRS/PAGE1/pages/PCC06JNRS_DSC_1177.htm
Yeah, I'm 16 as of a week ago today. I'm State TT Champ, and for a while I was ranked first in the state for road racing, however USAC hasn't been very good about putting up my race results (I haven't had any results put up since the State TT and the Proctor RR/Crit), so who knows if I'd still be first.
I'm currently Cat. 4, I upgraded start of August or so. I'm planning to Cat up to 3s soon, possibly 2s by the end of next year (I'm seriously sand-bagging; last week I hit 4.01 watts/kg)
This coming year I'll be racing VisionQuest, since I picked up coaching from them in October.
Where are you/whose your team?

ineff 11-16-2006, 02:11 PM I raced for Morris trucking over the summer. I will be racing for Alderfer and Burgan this year, its a new elite team, I got on it because I know that guy whos starting it.
my favorite races this year where probably, proving grounds RR durring super week, I liked a RR we did in louisvillie, I can't rememeber the name of it. Elk grove was good, only because I got 2nd and 4th though. the first day in iowa was a good race too (the RR)...
heres a pic of me: http://truesport.com/Bike/2006/photos/inrr12.html I'm on the right.

Definitely Supersonic 11-30-2006, 07:58 AM The Tour of the Ozarks Hellbender Roadrace is a great race in early June. It is in Newburg, Mo, just south of Rolla, Mo. It is about a 1hr and 30 min drive from St. Louis.
Here is the webpage: http://www.touroftheozarks.org/hellbender/index.html

funknuggets 12-05-2006, 10:19 AM If you come to west Missouri/Neb there are tons of stuff. Lincoln Plating comes to mind, Tour of KC always brings some good competition, Baldwin City has a 2 day Crit, TT, RR weekend.... Columbia has Froze Toes late Feb/Early March... Springfield has Dogwood... St. Louis area has several... starting with ... some Roubaix one, I forgot the name... and has some decent stuff throughout the year.
