Van Dessel's Darwinian Approach to 2007
Next generation road, track, and off-road bikes stay original by blending performance with practicality
DOVER, N.J. After a truly successful year both at the races and in the marketplace, Van Dessel Cycles keeps evolving and refining an already impressive line of bicycles. While relying heavily on input from top athletes for design, Van Dessel constantly keeps on top of new technologies and construction techniques to ensure that their bicycles remain at the forefront of the industry. The result is a 2007 product line that Van Dessel is proud to stand behind as its best ever.

Rivet: The Rivet is Van Dessel's newest all-carbon frame built with the sole goal of creating an ultra high-performance race frame. Looking back to traditional welded steel or alloy frames, the Rivet is constructed using mitered carbon tubes "welded" together with strips of carbon to create a cutting-edge modern frame. Carbon wrapping construction allows for a frame that is both lighter and stronger, without any design limitations - and thanks to the elimination of astronomical tooling costs - consumers can benefit from the Rivet's substantially lower price tag.
"The reason we are staying more "traditional" on design features such as integrated seatpost masts and oversized lower headset bearings is that, rather than win the trendsetter contest, we want to offer an ultra-high performance frame that is compatible with components and fittings readily available at any bike shop." explained Edwin Bull, the man behind many of Van Dessel's designs.
And on that note, the 950-gram frame alone will cost only $1,699, easily making it one the most practical high-performance frames in today's market.
Kermis: The only returning road bike for 2007, the Kermis is Van Dessel's racing workhorse. A light and responsive mix of Columbus Airplane main triangle and carbon rear triangle, the Kermis is a proven and constant favorite of many discerning professional athletes.
Hellafaster: With a name that combines a need for speed with too much time under the California sun, the Hellafaster is Van Dessel's answer to the thousands of riders that demand a road bike that can do double duty as a triathlon or a time-trial bike - and go fast in either form. Using a Hydroformed alloy frame, the Hellafaster features a close wheel cut-out, aero seat tube with carbon aero seatpost, asymmetric seatsays, top and down tube flaring for maximum lateral stiffness, and concave seat stays, which along with an aero carbon post make for good vibration damping and comfort. Possibly the most important part of the Hellafaster is its price: $799 for frame, fork and seat post, with an optional $125 aero kit that adds in Vision Tech clip-on aero bars and an adjustable angle seatpost that allows adjustability from a 73- to 78-degree seatpost angle.
Time Trial/Triathlon
All Systems Go: Staying with tried-and-true triple butted 7005 aluminum, the All Systems Go challenges its trendy all-carbon counterparts and dispels the myth that carbon is better. The All Systems Go is Van Dessel's rendition of the perfect balance between performance, comfort, aerodynamics, and price. Van Dessel has surpassed previous designs by going through great pains to fully exploit and refine alloy's construction flexibility and by offering a frameset that rivals those with twice the price tag. A carbon aero seatpost provides seat angle adjustability between 75 and 80 degrees. The frameset with headset and full carbon aero fork will retail for $1,299. Complete bikes will range from $2,199 to $5,999.
Cyclo-cross
Gin & Trombones: Already recognized as an unrivalled success, Van Dessel will continue to offer its Gin and Trombones cyclo-cross bike in 2007. Aside from a shorter headtube, the only change in the Gin and Trombones for '07 is the fact that it is also offered in Maxxis Orange to honor Van Dessel's sponsorship of Geoff Kabush (http://rd.bcentral.com/?ID=4719797&s=122426628) and the Maxxis cyclo-cross team. Frame, carbon fork and headset will sell for $799 while complete bikes will range from $1,999 to $4,499.

Country Road Bob: In a category all its own, Van Dessel's one-of-a-kind, do-it-all road/'cross/fixie frame is back for 2007. In fact, it's going way back - to the curved tubes of the original Country Road Bob. With its option for fixed gear, single-speed, or geared set-up, the CRB is the ultimate winter trainer or 'round town ride. Complete bikes go for $899.

Drag Strip Courage: Designed by US Olympian Jame Carney to be equally adept at mass start and time trial events, The Drag Strip Courage is Van Dessel's solution for track racers needing a pro-level race bike that can handle anything. By simply flipping the stem and swapping the bars, the Drag Strip Courage can be converted from sprint bike to pursuit bike (and, while painted under a different manufacturer's logos, has already earned several national champion titles in both sprint and time-trial disciplines to prove its top-end versatility). Frame, fork and headset will go for $799 and complete bikes will start at $1,799.
Mountain
