I was thinking of asking Santa wife for a Garmin 305. Although I normally wouldn't run a computer of any kind on my commuter, I was thinking of getting one anyway. My morning commute begins and ends before sunrise and I have an HID headlight. Has anyone heard of any issues with GPS and HID. I know my wireless computer on the race bike doesn't work with the HID turned on, but I don't know how it would affect a GPS unit.

I'll ask someone I know about it...I'd don't it would interfere with the GPS signal itself..that's dam near impossible to jam (as the military would like it)...whether or not it funnies with the hardware, dunno...what kind/how many HID are we talkin about just for argument?

My HID is a nite rider. I believe the model is Blowtorch. It is a on/off HID without any LEDs. I understand the wireless computer issue, I had the headlight under the stem between the transmitter and receiver. That was on the race bike. The commuter mounts the headlight more traditionally on the bars with the light itself infront of the stem faceplate. I would put the Garmin on the stem.

Bets here are, that it probably won't affect the GPS...as to the HRM or cadence sensors; they're probably as vulnerable as any other coded HRM.

Only way to know for sure is to try it.

I have the Light & Motion ARC Li-ion AND the Edge 305 with HR and wireless speed/cadence. I've never had a problem. The Edge 305 is mounted on the stem, with the light mounted right next to it on the handelbar in traditional fashion.

No decrease at all in number of satellites it can pick up?

I ordered one. I actually found a good price with free shipping from biketiresdirect. I got the 305 with cadence and heartrate. Ride report to follow.

I have a 305 and love it. If anyone out there needs a cycle computer with hr or cadence and you are a map/google earth/sat nerd you will really like it. No problems with mine yet. 600ish miles on and and off road. I like mine because it doesn't have any sensors to mount to the bike (no cadence for me). This allows me to put it on any of my 4 bikes just by clipping it in the bracket (extra brackets are cheapish)....and instant computer.

http://www.mtbguru.com/ this could be really cool for ride reports but I haven't used it yet (just found it)

Motionbased is pretty cool too.
