So, i'm in need of a 36 hole rear hub, and there are a literal _TON_ of Dura Ace 7800 hubs on ebay. Only problem is, I'm running 9 speed, don't want to mess with the Only-DA-10s-cogsets nonsense. So, has anybody taken a 7800 hub and replaced the freehub body? Any idea how easy/possible it would be? (I've taken apart a FSA cartridge bearing freehub before, but that's cake.)

Can't you get a hold of a 7700 hub? That would be the easier choice.

being a broke graduate student with a not particularly pressing need for the hub (new tubies for cx next year), I'm watching ebay for deals. Right now, pretty much everything else is bmx or freewheel/vintage stuff.

i don't think it is possible. the format of the hub is a bit strange. I don't think they make a body in 8/9 spd that fits that hub.
just get new shifters. ;)

if you have a lathe with some small "inside" chuck jaws and can turn down the outside diameter to make it 9 speed compatible, then you'd be good to go.
otherwise, no.
shame. they're great hubs though, especially at those prices. crazy light, real ball bearings, great seals, and smooooth.
