View Full Version : The inner W
Three new psychological portraits of George W. Bush paint him as a control freak driven by rage, fear and an almost murderous Oedipal competition with his father. And that's before we get to Mom.

MR_GRUMPY 06-16-2004, 05:14 AM Why can't someone just write the truth about Bush......That he's barely smart enough to be a Texas Congressman........(Sorry, Texas)
Well, "truth" or "absolute" is a tough definition to come by in psychological assessments. But did you read the entire article? Some of it is off-target, and some of it seems right on the mark.
Either way, I thought it was an interesting and semi-relevant topic.

What a total quack. I don't like Bush and I have no problem saying that. But this guy has to cloak his dislike in dubious psychological theories. Sounds like he has some issues, himself. Besides, wouldn't he get the same results if he analyzed most Presidents? It takes a certain personality type to want the job in the first place.

His opponents underestimate him at their own peril. Remember a few years ago his intellect was regarded as so low that just showing up for the debates with Al Gore without drooling on himself assured him victory. G.Bush is great at what Texans call "hillbilliing" or getting "hillbillied." They feed off of it lower expectations and then surprise everyone at the right time when everyone is watching. Worked like a charm with his well choreographed "Jesus Christ is my favorite philospher" line. Break out the tents and call in the revival because it was all over after that.
MR_GRUMPY 06-16-2004, 07:02 AM Of course George is a little "nuts", but then again, who isn't ?
The article just seemed "slanted."......A right winger could write the same sort of article about Bill Clinton and his problems with sex.
So the guy's analysis is totally without merit? I don't think so.
I think the writer critiqued the book fairly. But then how would any of us know, because no one here is a shrink, are they?

...tonight that the reason he had this strange affair with Monica Lewinsky was "because I could." Clinton always had this streak of social rebel in him, an opportunistic country boy from Hope, Arkansas. Power is an aphrodisiac.

Sounds pretty honest to me. Too bad he couldn't have just admitted it like this when he was under oath since he knew they had enough evidence to blow (pun intended) his cover anyway.

and I have marveled for years at the severely dysfunctional Bush family, GWB seems the craziest of the lot and that's saying something. ... Sometimes if I let myself think about it I get nervous realizing we have a looney-tunes president in charge of the world's most powerful military .......... If he would come see me I would prescribe Thorazine to chill him out, render him a zombie actually and maybe keep his murderous rages under control, but I doubt he'll be swinging by anytime soon.
Duane Gran 06-17-2004, 12:29 PM Let's see... someone who ascends to the highest political office in the nation might be a control freak. Stop the presses. I would credit Bush with Oedipal tendencies if I thought he was someone who might have ever read Greek classics. Cracking on Bush feels like shooting a fish in a barrel. It just isn't sporting enough for me.

Live Steam 06-17-2004, 12:37 PM Bill Clinton has told why he had a torrid affair with Monica Lewinsky: "Just because I could." Seems to me this guy had the "God syndrome" and then some. I am pretty confident that with this admission, the allegations of rape must be true. He did that too, "just because he could" get away with it. What a fine human being he is.

All politicians who rise to this level have big egos...Clinton is no exception. Like how you libel him though even though he was never convicted on any of those charges. Lord knows the repubs tried and all they could get to stick was the hanky panky with an intern.
Live Steam 06-17-2004, 12:55 PM You do know what his defense against any successful prosecution was, don't you? Does FBI files ring a bell?
Sorry BBS, I forgot about you! From what I've been reading out of the psychoanalytical world lately concerning GWB, your opinion is not much different than the majority of their's.
czardonic - good link.
BTW - It's interesting how every time something derogatory (but revealing) about GWB comes up, LS tries evading it by bringing up Clinton's foibles. In case you haven't figured it out yet LS: Clinton's past personal problems are not relevant to what Bush is doing RIGHT NOW. Try to move on.
