mercierfils 12-31-2006, 03:45 PM 2000 Jekyll 900 (that's a mountain bike...one of those things with shock absorbers and flat bars :D ) w/ 2 sets of wheels/hubs/disks for $300. It got me through a year with record rainfall here in Central New York - I learned to embrace the mud. New condition; retailed for about $2400, but more importantly, it got me out on many days that were unsafe on the roads.
Mr. Versatile 12-31-2006, 05:10 PM A Panasonic Sport 1000 with Tange DB tubing and old Shimano components. It's a very good fit for me. I use it as a commuter bike...27x1 1/4 tires, 7 spd rear freewheel. It has very few blemishes on it & is even a nice color.................$40.00 from my LBS.
My 2nd best is Nashbar's Ares sunglasses. They are super comfy, light as a feather and durable. They come with clear, yellow, and gray lenses all in a very nice case. >$20.00. I honestly like them better than Oakleys.

cydswipe 01-01-2007, 05:08 AM Chris King headset, $139.00. Screamin' deal? no. Will it keep me from constantly tinkering with the POS FSA cheapo I had before. yes. Also, eating smarter berfore, and on longer rides. No more will I spend monies on Power-this or Gu-that. Real food is real food. :)

terry 01-01-2007, 06:24 AM i thought i did pretty well with a seven sola ti frame for $800 but now seeing Len's deal i'm not so sure...
Steve-O 01-01-2007, 06:37 AM For some reason every garage sale I passed in 2006 seemed to have a bike waiting for sale. Here are two that I've had fun with.
Late 80's Trek 560 (http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?t=64709) - Picked it up for $15. Put a parts bin seat and some older tires and I'm commuting on it for 3 months. Later I put it on Craigslist and sold it for $150 to some college kid who was determined to convert it into a fixie...
1987 Stumpjumper Comp - This is a mountain bike but I have been riding it on some snowy commutes. Still had the original Ground Control Extreme tires and brake pads. The original owner probably only rode it a handful of times. For $50 I'm already at $1/ride cost basis and really enjoying it...
Reynolds531 01-01-2007, 08:06 AM I'll start.
Kreitler Dyno-Myte rollers (barely used) $175

Thank you craigslist!
Cashmere as a base layer can't be beat. It's warm. It's cool. It's soft. It dosen't stink, even after several sweaty rides.
Henry Chinaski 01-01-2007, 11:28 AM Surly Cross Check frameset. LBS gave me a good price on it. I was also pleased with the new Thomson post I scored off eBay for $40.
jains89 01-01-2007, 02:40 PM well from the looks of the replies i had a pretty good year.
1. litespeed classic near new condition with full dura ace 9 speed and a pair of sidi shoes for 1100 us
2. KHS flite 100 as a christmas bonus from the shop where i work which was a replacement for the bike that i crashed earlier in the year and allowed me to commute to work and now to school also. school is 13 miles and work is about 7 from their. saves me a lot on gas.:)
undies 01-01-2007, 07:37 PM Banjo Bros. grocery panniers. I got two for $30 at a LBS sale. They make errand-running on the bike super easy, thus encouraging me to leave the car parked and take the bike. Best purchase evar.
Breakfast 01-01-2007, 07:45 PM Fixed gear bike.
Weight and money saved by not needing gears, derailleurs, rear brake, shifters. The opportunity to experience a simple drivetrain and the feel of the frame and wheelset without all the accompanying noise is awesome.
Best bang for the buck!
esenkay 01-02-2007, 05:00 AM Switched to Kool Stop salmon pads on my Cannondale's "omega" brakes, man, what a difference over the stock crap. No more grinding rim noises, and much improved feel and stopping power. I was told I should just replace the brakeset with Ultegra, but now feel no need to.
Definitely one of the best upgrades I've ever made (and major bang for buck).
