OK, so 2007 is here. We've had the look back at 2006 milage thread. So what about 2007 goals?

Mine:

- Ride at least 4500 miles. I've average about 4700 miles per year for the past 3 years.

- Commute to work more days than I drive for the year. My commute is 44 miles round trip by bike. This is really my big goal. It can get tough later in the week when I'm getting tired. I climb about 2000 feet total in each direction. The first pic is going to work.

The second is coming home.

Not sure how the profiles are different because they are the same route. Anyway - going home is always more challenging on my fixie.

- Last goal - ride at least 250 days this year. In 2006 I road 205 days. I figure upping it by 25% is good.

Well, thats mine. How bout everyone else.

Better eating habits. Less binge type meals post ride. More water and less booze overall.

Nothing really interesting yet, I think those areas will increase my performance more than anything else. My time on the bike is really pretty high considering job and family. Good luck!

I won't use the term resolution per se but I am in the same boat as woodys. I stepped on a scale on 12-7-2006, after months of ignoring what I put into my body. What I found was up to my fattest college weight again, which was 40 pounds more than my old bike racing weight. I wasn't feeling good, always tired and cranky. I decided to be heathly I needed to go back to my "program" of watching everything that goes in my mouth and asking if it is the best available food source that will serve my body well. After a little under a month I've dropped 8 pounds with the goal being 30-35 total. I drink tons of water, eat well, and dropped the caffiene. I also gave off the 1-3 beers a night down to 2 a week. I feel great and have fun coming up with tasty healthy menus.

On my rides my body feels sooooooo much better. I did 4.5 hours on the MTB today as I am going to race a bit in the upcoming season. Life is good and my plan is already rolling good.

I've been kicking around the idea of doing the 508. I need to decide quickly and try to get a spot.

A few goals or resolutions...

There are few measurables like mileage goals, knocking off time in centuries and other long rides, etc. Beyond those, I hope to do more riding to group rides and less driving to them. I will do everything to keep my family first and riding second. Finally, I want to get a better understanding of what kind of rider I am.

1) Get more road miles done. The last 7 years, 5,000 miles per year, this year less than 500. I don't count the bike on the trainer time. A function of moving UK to US to China, work and the environment.

2) Buy fewer bikes/frames on EBay. I had the same problem when I was in the UK and went from 3 bikes/frames to 12 bikes/frames. Before coming to China I culled the fleet a bit but it's growing again.

3) Non-bike, improve my crap Mandarin skills.

4) Continue to travel in Asia.

And for you weight weenies, this guy's not even carrying a half load.

I better get with the program or I won't have anyone to ride with in July.

I went for my annual physical today. I am 9 pounds heavier than I was this time last year. I also have noticed that my commute to work takes a little longer than it did two or three years ago -- and my office and house are in the same place.

Pay less attention to the odometer, and more to the scenery

Too many MTB's, currently no road bike. the Karate Monkey is getting shorter cranks, rigid fork back on, relatively skinny tires and a moustache bar. My new commuter bike! Goals:
have fun! That's why I picked a bike over a gym membership.
drop body fat from 18% to 15%
comfortably wear a 34" pant waist
think about a real road bike again for later this year- probably a SS or even a fixie if I don't hurt myself too bad on the monkey.

Graduate from college and find a job that alIows me to commute by bike. Ultimately I'd like to finish off 2007 with the same mileage as 2006: 5,000. This is really a stretch since I was a full time student all of 2006 and was able to ride alot, including commuting from college to home (I load my bike on the bus going to college).

I really think I need to curb my obsession with cycling. It has been what I think and read about almost all the time for years. Is this even a bad thing? My wife handles it really well. I earn a good living, don't go out drinking, go to church, pay the bills. I also commute into work a few days a week and do a group ride either on Saturday or Sunday. I also participate with the Leukemia/Lyphoma society on their cycling team. I just love cycling. I love the bikes, the gear, the comaradiere, the challenge of a big, long climb and the thrill of a long, swoopy decent. I love riding into work when it is 28 degrees out and sunrise is an hour away. I love it when it is 90 degrees out and it seems like my legs are on fire climbing up a canyon. It is who I am. Has this gotten out of control and I don't even know it? Thanks for listening.

You sound like me. My self diagnosis is that I'm doing ok. If everyone in your life are well, your doing fine.

Have a good ride.

A bit late to the '2007 cycling goals' party, but this is going to be a big year for me. I've been getting more and more into cycling over the last three years, and in 2007, I will:

> set a mileage baseline for each month and the year by keeping detailed ride logs
> complete my 12-mile out-and-back loop in single-digit temps, and ride outdoors whenever the roads are dry
> complete at least one time trial
> complete at least one road race
> complete at least one MTB race
> complete at least one CX race
> complete another century - at least the NYC Century again, and hopefully 1-2 more
> keep up with the local Thursday evening hammerfest, and not just the Monday evening fast-paced group ride

I was slow deciding on mine, but here they are.

- Get a real road bike (I'm still on the hybrid I got in 2005 when I couldn't afford or even find a road bike)
- Ride 3000 miles
- Find a group ride relatively close to where I live (LBSes have been beyond unhelpful)
- Ride a century
- Ride more instead of taking the train or subway.

Mine is to have more fun.............period.

 especially since I recovered from losing my drive to ride at the end of last year/early this year. More fun for sure.

But, I'd love to be able to ride at around 27-28mph for about an hour or so. That's my other goal. (currently @ 25mph but it's now at 23-24mph since I lost my fitness a little and 're-loved' biking again)
