So here's the situation. I have an old 84 trek complete with 126 drop outs. So, I want to know if my newish (off my 2003) wheel will fit in my fork. When I tried it, the wheel essentially fit but you can never be too sure (losing a wheel at 45 mph can't be fun). Have fork spacings changed like drop out spacing has, or has it been the same since 1984?

Front wheel will be fine. Rear spacing on new road wheels is 130. Most older steel 126 spaced frames can be make to fit them, though.

So, just thinking out loud here, but how would it be possible for a wheel that fits in a fork, with the QR properly closed, to just fall out? :)

One time, when I was a kid, I opened the fridge, and a ceramic pot almost fell on my head. Maybe that fuels my suspicion of things falling when they aren't supposed to...
