Were Campy Super Record and Nuovo Record brake pad holders aluminum or chrome steel? Anyone know where a set of four can be bought for a reasonable price? I see them on ebay occasionally and they always sell for big bucks. I can't see spending that kind of money for brake shoes.

I have a set and they are chromed steel with rock hard pads, you can't get replacement rubber from campy but other stuff fits. You are better off believe it or not with shimano ultegra pads they fit and stop.
