Anyone know the password to the Mavic site to get tech info on servicing Ksyrium's? I need to replace one from bearing on an 03 Ksyrium. It's grinding. So, I may as well replace all the bearings, front and rear while I am at it.
On the front hub, I have a spanner to get the silver 'disc' out and can get the axle off. Then there is the plastic,I think, cover holding the bearing in place. It looks like it takes a special tool so should I hit the LBS for one(authorized Mavic dealer of course), or is there a subtle way to get this off.
For the rear wheel, I can't figure out how to remove the rear axel off to remove the freewheel to remove the bearings. I got that silver disc off but the axel is either stufck with debrit or it's menchically held in.
I got the wheels used on ebay and the chump apparently left the wheels out in the rain. My bad for choosing this route to some degree.
Peace!

There's a search function here (just trying to help). All I did was search for 'password' and it brought me right to this thread. Next time you may be able to find it without having to wait for someone to respond to your post....

Supposedly some of the best you can get. I suspect that the Mavic bearings are a standard model and probably cost a lot more. All you need is the O.D., I.D. and thickness.

All this info is very useful. Any idea where I can actually get the Mavic tools needed to perform the task?
And thanks for the search tip.
Peace.
The only specialtool required is the pin spanner that adjusts the bearing play. Every Ksyrium comes with this tool. I'd try your local shop. If you know anyone who owns Ksyriums, maybe they would lend you the tool.

What I dont't know is how to get out the bearings. THe tech manual is not very clear on the subject other than to use a "bearning puller".
There is this plastic cap holding the front bearing in place. Does that come out by unscrewing or 'popping' it out? I don't want to force anything so may take it to the LBS. I just prefer to service my own stuff so I can avoind waiting and keep it clean on my own timeline ya know. I have rebuilt a bike or two in college and even an MG so I don't see this as rocket science but a matter of knowlegde.
The rear axel is stuck it seems or there is another item that needs to be loosened up. If you have done this, could you list your procedures.
Thanks for your time C-40!
Peace!
I missed the bearing puller requirment. These tools are shown in the tools section of the mavic website. Basically, a cartridge bearing must have force applied only to the outer race. Wack on the inner part where the axle goes thorugh and you'll ruin the bearing. Other than the long rod shown, the other tools look like bearing installing tools which insure that force is applied to the bearing O.D..
I've never rebuilt one of these hubs, so I don't know any more than the mavic instructions. If the hub had water in it, you may have difficulty removing the axle due to corrosion.
As for the plastic parts, I assume that they just pop out. Sorry I can't be of more help. The Mavic instructions aren't the best.
