Fellow riders,

I am seeking comments about weight lifting and indoor trainer workouts on the same day. Who combines indoor training workouts and weights on the same day. For example, does anyone ride the trainer for a hour in the morning and lift weights later that day. Does anyone ride the trainer for a hour then go directly to the gym to lift?

Just wondering if doubling up was overkill.

My gym has lousy bikes and it's not convenient to ride to the gym, those options are out.

Last year I was lifting M/W (no cycling at all), hard indoor training T/TH, long rides on Sat/Sun outside. I think I can do more.

Any ideas.

Thanks

I lift for ~30 minutes in the AM 5 days a week. Upper body "circuit" on Mo-We-Fr and legs plus some easy cardio (NordicTrak) on Tu-Th. I ride the trainer Su AM, then Tu-Th-Fr in the evening. On the days I do legs in the AM you can feel it a bit on the trainer, but it's not bad. I have a home gym so this works well, weights before work, and some trainer-time after dinner.

Nothing wrong with strength training and on the bike training on the same day.
Depending on your goals and whewre you are in your training(periodization wise).
For example this time of year your goal maybe to increase your overall strength, in a perfect world you probably do your strength training before(after a warm up of course) you do your on the bike workout. This way you would be "fresher" for your strength workout and would less likel to injure your self. Then do your on the bike workout.
The reason behind that is you are a cyclist 1st and your body is used to cycling and not strength training.

Lift weights, then cardio.
