View Full Version : where do you buy your C02 cartridges? wchane 01-28-2007, 08:53 PM looking for treaded 16g in bulk. this stuff is getting expensive. 633 01-28-2007, 09:02 PM You're doing road? You might need 16g for MTB tires, but a standard 12g cartridge will get a 700C tire up to 90-95 psi - plenty to continue a ride on, under most circumstances. Unthreaded 12g cartridges are very cheap in bulk at Wal-Mart. They're the same ones used for air rifles, paintball guns and all kinds of other things. If your inflator will only accept threaded, it's probably cheaper to replace it with one that'll do handle unthreaded. I know that doesn't directly answer your question, so if you really gotta have 16g threaded....I don't know. wchane 01-28-2007, 09:11 PM thx for the tip. i've been wondering if those bb gun cartridges would work, i think you've answered my question. switching to unthreaded. 12g suffices, 16g just for redundency. tarwheel2 01-29-2007, 05:29 AM I buy the unthreaded CO2 cartridges at WalMart. It cost me something like $5 for 12 cartridges several years ago and I've still got plenty of them. Just make sure your inflator will handle unthreaded cartridges. If not, it's probably worth it to buy another inflator. mtbykr 01-29-2007, 09:45 AM I'll second the wal-mart route. I got my inflator at my lbs for something like $10 and a box of the ones form wal-mart (copperhead brand i think). They last quite a while, and i use them for road and mt. iliveonnitro 01-29-2007, 06:51 PM ebay usually has 16g threaded and non-threaded for pretty cheap. I'm in the same boat as everyone else. I got a pack of 25 or so 12g cartridges from dicks sporting goods on sale for like $9-10. They sell the 12g non-threaded things for paintball guns. Snopro440 01-31-2007, 06:02 PM I would think twice about using the crossman or daisy cartidges. I understand that they use an oil in them to lube the mechanism of the guns and the barrel. The oil is bad for your tubes inside, and will possibly cause trouble. Thats what I was told by a rep from either Michelin or Continental. I forget which. I went in with a couple of buddies on a big order and the shop cut us a good deal, so it doesn't matter to me!!! LCFrecrider 02-01-2007, 12:29 PM How many of these things do you guys go through in a year? Maybe I am lucky, but I get a flat about every 2000-4,000 miles. So, if I bought in bulk, it'd take forever to go thru them! Scotty2Hotty 02-01-2007, 12:39 PM I would think twice about using the crossman or daisy cartidges. I don't think paying 900% more for those CO2 things is worth it just to possibly extend the life of a $3 tube or a $15 CO2 pump. I don't buy it. IMO... I buy the expensive ones because that's what my pump uses... :( I'm gonna try eBay next time I need some, though. If you're concerned about the life of your tubes, test out one of the "oil" cartidges...spray al the CO2 out onto a piece of cardboard and see if there is an oily residue. But I agree with the above poster. I'm not so concerned about the life of my inner tubes. If I were running tubless, where the tires are expensive, then I'd be concerned. dapoofyhairdude 02-08-2007, 11:13 PM buy a gasblowback co2 airsoft gun and waste em fast. its kinda fun. |
