I wil be in Clearwater visiting relatives Feb 14-18. Is it worth trying to bring a bike for three days? or should I just plan on cross training? I have tried to adjust my coach's schedule so that I have workouts I can do most anywhere for those days.

Suggestions for ride routes, friendly mellow group rides will be most welcome. Also recommendations on gyms, YMCAs and such cause I've got some weight training to do.

thanks

Hey breeze. Weather is very condusive to riding. I was just back in NM for the last two weeks of Jan and it was COLD. I didn't even take my bike this time. I have moved on from Rio Rancho to Pensacola, Fl last year, and have yet to spend much time in the Clearwater area. I will be down that way for a 12 hour MTB race on Feb 17 I am "riding" not racing. It will be my first solo 12 hour attempt, so I am just going to plod along for 12 hours and see how it goes. I will see if I can get any club info from my club here on the area you are going to. I know there are some decent rides around Tampa, but I will see about Clearwater.

Absolutely bring the steed, there is no better place to ride this time of year. Contact Chainwheel drive, or go to the suncoast freewheelers website.
enjoy!

My inlaws are in Clearwater, FL and it is a pretty nice place to ride during the winter. The only road riding I have done down there is on McMullen Booth. I take it away from the city and it is a pretty nice, extremely flat, ride. It goes past a couple of gold courses and the traffic becomes less and less as you get away from the city. Traffic around Clearwater can be kind of crazy, so make sure you ride away from the city.

Here is a reply from a guy I know in St Pete:

There is a pretty good ride that leaves from Panera Bread @ Indian Rocks RD and West Bay.

If they can make it down towards St Pete (it isn't very far) there is a ride every morning.

Everyday @ 8:30
Tues-Sat @ 7
Tues + Thurs. @ 4, 5, and 6
Sunday @ 7, 8, and 8:30

Uh oh. Beware the endurance mtb bug. I caught it bad doing the 24 Hr Old Pueblo race. Good luck and have fun, that's the best approach I have found. I'm not doing the race this year because my main teammate moved away and we couldn't ge tour act together before the registration closed. Thus is why I'l be in florida.

I am really looking forward to some warmer weather. New Mexico has been really cold this year, and snowy too. It's only been the last week or so that the roads have been consistantly dry and temps above freezing for any length of time. This week Albq is projected to get up to 60 degrees! We may not get that warm here is the north but anything above 40 will be very welcome.

I totally spaced out. I just to www.routeslip.com (http://www.routeslip.com) and checked for clearwater routes. They had six listed that look decent. here is a link to the six rides listed:
