Registration was supposed to happen mid month, but the site is missing. Yup, I noticed that too. I've been checking it daily to get my registration in. Nothing on www.Active.com yet either. I did the 200k last year and its the most pain I've ever experienced on a bike....so much fun I've got to do it again...if they have it. Triker 02-08-2007, 05:41 PM Sites back up—registrations not open yet. jhuyser 02-09-2007, 05:53 AM Is the Horribly Hilly 100 the same ride as Dairyland Dare? http://www.dairylanddare.com/ brewster 02-09-2007, 11:06 AM Better be ready to submit your registration the minute it opens. Last year they filled up really fast....like a day or two. Missed out going last year because of it. :mad2: paluc52 02-09-2007, 12:55 PM Some of the same people are involved in organizing both events. HHH is in mid-June and has 100k and 200k options. Total elevation gain on the 200k route is over 10,000 ft. Dairyland Dare is in mid-August and has options up to 300k with something like 20,000 ft total elevation gain. There is some overlap in the HHH and Dairyland routes but much of the Dairyland routes are one county further west. I did only the 100k Dairyland, but the 200k HHH. Comparing an apple to an orange, the HHH route had, I thought, steeper hills, but the Dairyland route had perhaps more frequent hills. BVBR 02-26-2007, 04:46 PM No chip timing this year due to a couple of cheaters and a lot of whiners. (I know...its not a race...but I still want to gauge my performance against the field). Too bad. Last year was a great event. I might just ride the course with my teammates (on another day, of course) and save the $50. At least I won't have to dodge the dozens of knuckleheads riding 4 wide uphill at a blistering 4mph. jhuyser 02-28-2007, 01:00 PM Even though registration does not open until tomorrow, how come the HHH does not show up on the website? steelbike 03-01-2007, 08:00 AM Been sitting here for an hour waiting for the registration pages to come up. DriftlessDB 03-01-2007, 11:00 AM WOW - A buddy and I were going to do this but, the 100K is full after registration being open for only 3 hours. Just have to wait for Dairyland I guess. Dave BVBR 03-01-2007, 02:00 PM I got in the 200k but it took me almost 2hrs as the website kept crashing. I'll be amazed if I don't get charged multiple times. Isn't the whole point of using a service like Active.com to alleviate the registration hassles??? Next year HHH should just go to a lottery like Chequamegon does and dump this active.com crap. jparman 03-02-2007, 04:41 AM I got in, had to work at it for 2 hours to do so. Luckily like BVBR mentioned, I did not get charged multiple times as I did not get any confirmation as being entered, until I got the confirmation screen and was able to print off the waiver form. Congratulations for those of you that were able to get into the event. Active.com does not have the infrastructure to support the type of event, and HHH should probably look for a new vendor if they want to continue to provide this service. Triker 03-02-2007, 04:53 AM I got in as well with a bit of an effort, several dropped attempts. I was disappointed last year to miss out. But three hours to fill? Perhaps since last years "volunteers" got to pre-register there were a of "volunteers"? Just proof that more challenging rides are needed in the midwest. sbaryenbruch 03-02-2007, 08:08 AM Chip timing: Who freakin' cares. Maybe if this was a race they would be necessary...but probably not even then cause only first place really matters. Want to gauge yourself against the field....Have a few beers at the top of the hill when you get done and watch how many people finish after you. Don't get me started about the riders who only count riding time but sit at aid stations for 30-45 minutes each! Didn't get in: Lots of small towns within reach of the course for aid. Ride any weekend you want on your own minus the crowds. I've ridden the 100k route with a full Camelbak and two waterbottles...my feet touched the ground once when I had to check my route map. paluc52 03-02-2007, 02:17 PM Granted it's not a race, but it's still worth seeing how you did in your age group, etc. I'd like to know the reasons for dropping this. A few cheaters is hardly a sufficient reason. The distribution problem might be addressed by requiring everyone to pay a healthy deposit to the vendor, refundable if you return your chip after the race, and then just include the chips in the pick up bag at the High School. Too late now, I suppose. Yes, I don't need to hear it: It will be less vain and more virtuous just to time myself and take deep personal satisfaction in whooping my sore a** of a year ago. |
