I have an older Schwinn I converted to a fixie about 6 years ago. Call me old, but I'd like to add a free wheel on the back, and put brakes back on the bike. Is this easy to do or do I need a new wheel? I live in an area with a lot of hills and am finding I can't descend as quickly as I would like, but I love the SS feeling and want to ride this bike more.

Thanks

I can't imagine why you would need a new wheel. If you can fit a track cog onto it then it can hold a freewheel. Is this a fixed/free hub? Or did you simply thread on a track cog onto the original wheel? Either way it won't matter with the freewheel. Just add some brakes and you're set. If you're gonna run SS, I would probably add two brakes.

it's a fixed hub, can I just buy a freewheel for it?
Thanks

yep..Just thread a freewheel on in place of the fixed cog. There are plenty of threads on the fixed side for a freewheel
