am curious as to who likes it, either looks or ride. also anyone have the inside track on what if anything the funky shape adds to performance--i think it weighs more, but maybe it does something substative in terms of ride?

thanks
jim

Aesthetically the answers will probably cover the spectrum. Personally, I find it interesting but do not lust for it. But then I'm a round-tube-kinda-guy, even the Calfee fits that need.

I'd be curious to hear the performance advantages of all the swoops. (TB should order one to let us all know how it compares to those other boring race bikes.)

I like it a lot - really radical design and appearance. And looks is what grabs me every time.

But barring some NOS frame showing up on eBay, I doubt I would ever buy one. Couldn't take the people laughing as they ride by. I'm far too sensitive. :D

but I don't like the Tango looks-wise. However, don't get me started on the Idol!

If you want an opinion from someone who has actually ridden one:

I too am a De Rosa fan. I own 2 of them. IMO the Tango is just too fugly & weird looking. I admire functionality, frequently at the expense of bling & style. Sorry. As much as I like De Rosas, I just can't get past the tango's terrible looks.

It's just too ugly.

I know Pinarello started the curved tubing craze but if you look closely, the curves in a Pina resemble muscle lines in a beast and there is something sexy about the way those curves flow. The Tango on the other hand, have curves in order to have curves, and nothing more.

Thumbs down.

Ditto.
I'm also a DeRosa owner and fan but the Tango looks to me like they decided to build it just because they could. I can't imagine any real benefit to the bulk of the novel shaping other than to be visually different and to show off their manufacturing capability.

am really curious because it can't be cheap to do this sort of thing so i figured there must be a benefit.
i don't think it will grow on me (the tarmac did, but i think the tango should be named the macarena)

Love the Idol, love the King, Love the Neo-P, Love De-Rosa's in general:D
But that Tango is the ugliest bike I've ever seen.....Thumbs down.

It's not ugly, it's unique. You need to take a different perspective, that's all.

With the exception of your indifferance to lugged steel, we have similar tastes. But gotta disagree with you on this one. It's unique all right, Unique in that it's the ugliest bike I've ever laid eyes on. :p

I'd ride it if only because it's such an oddball and I bet I could do some interesting things with it.

But that doesn't mean I would pay good money for it. Maybe one will appear on my porch.

Prolly could pull it off TB, but me? I'd just get laughed right off the road.........

 Looks to me like some "interesting" things have already been done to it. :out:

Okay, so someone left it out in the hot sun for an extra hour or so. Is that any reason to dismiss it? :D :p

I raced against a guy yesterday who was riding a Tango all pimped out with Dura Ace carbon wheels. IMHO it looks much better in person, still a bit funky but kinda cool. This one was gloss carbon with gray accents so it took the edge off the radical design a bit. The top tube is hard to get over. Unfortunately there was a crash around mile 45 and a lot of carbon shattered. It was definitely a carbon frame and/or wheelset and was very explosive sounding. I never saw the guy after that so I hope it wasn't him!

Too wacky for me. Unless you put a pinarello onda fork and one of those melting signo saddles on it! Oh, I think I just made myself vomit.
