This is what happens when you start hanging around here and happen to get bed-ridden sick for a week with a high speed internet connection. I started looking around and...well, it showed up yesterday.

An ALAN built/Colnago badged lugged aluminum 'cross frame and fork. I'm guessing late 80's to mid 90's. 1" threaded fork, ovalized top tube for carrying, no water bottle bosses, 25 mm seatpost, and other assorted weirdness.

I searched all over the net for info but not much available other than "it's flexy/whippy and will probably break at the head lug." Any other info on these bikes apppreciated.

I always wanted a Colnago and this one was pretty, unique, and priced right.

Ain't never seen the cross version before! Maybe it's less whippy/flexy than the standard road version? In any case, that's a beautiful frame! I hope it gets you truckloads of babes before it breaks at the head tube. Keep your eye on all the epoxied joints! But ride the snot out of it... what the heck!

BTW: I've been riding a bonded aluminum ATB frame since 1994 with no hint of problems.

How do you shift it?? I don't see any shift levers, and you have a nice ultegra 9sp double crank but no FD..HUH? I have the same crank on my SS crosser and my geared crosser, just swaped out the big ring for a 48t last fall for cross season, I much prefer the smaller big ring- especially for racing but even for on the road it works nice also.
It did turn out pretty nice though.

Yes, Deore thumbshifter for the 8 speed rear. Nada up front. I'm getting some shorter chainring bolts and pulling the 53 ring off the front when I have a chance. So it will eventually be 39 ring in the front and an 11/28 8 speed casette in the rear. I mostly ride SS, so 8 speed seems a luxury. Build details in Retro-Classic thread...
