Where'd you find this? Is that an outtake that wound up on somebody's blog? Or was this "published"?

Do you see what I see,

A friend's daughter just graduated from HS in the US, and it seems every other photo has someone flashing the "shocker." I'll bet that never gets old

If I worked at Lipton and had the pull, I would kick this girl off the team for being immature.

This pic was on Cyclingnews as part of Glen Chadwick's diary. As a "teammate", hopefully he wouldn't have posted it if he noticed it as its just looks bad for the team as a whole.

You better believe when I go to recruiting on behalf of my employer or a client meeting, my game face is on. On the other hand, these guys are in the spotlight more often than I am. It won't make or break a career but I got to believe little things like that count for something.

Really? I think that's a bit of an overreaction, don't you? It's not like when Judith Arndt:

http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2004/olympics04/women_rr/OLY70.jpg

flipped off the camera at the 04 Olympics,

or even when Groenendaal flipped off Nys and his team management at the Superprestige #7

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/136/380655036_d048009f31.jpg?v=0

Both of those were malicious and expressed in a improper arena. In the case of the Lipton rider, the fault really should go to the press agent for the team. They shouldn't have sent that pic off to the press. I'm sure that there were plenty of other pictures that weren't sent to print because someone else was goofing off or people weren't all looking at the camera. While, I agree that the rider wasn't exercising the best of judgment in this particular instance, there shouldn't be reprecussions for this...not for a planned publicity pic.

Then you are saying her behavior is acceptable and no reprecussions should be taken. Thus, it is ok. It is a small women's pro-team, she is replaceable.

No, that's not what I'm saying at all. As I said before. It's true that she wasn't exercising good judgment, but she most certainly shouldn't be canned for flipping the bird during a planned team photo. The photo shouldn't have made it out of the press/publicity agents hand in the first place.

So you're definition of wrong and right has to do with if she was replaceable or not? So under your definitions if Boonen or Basso or even K. Armstrong had been the one doing the flipping it would be ok?

Don't know who she is but they should keep her at this point. I haven't thought or discussed women's cycling until now. This may prove truth to the concept any publicity is good publicity.

Maybe one of the women could pull a John Amaechi and really generate some press.

As if we should be shocked if a few women cyclist were to come out and say they are gay. it would be like Clay Aiken saying he is gay.

Look at how bad US sports are. You can punch and spit on fans and only get suspended. So yes, start with the little things and they will not turn into big things.

That would only work if the big things weren't happening already. Doesn't really apply in this instance. How's about they try and solve the drug use problems and then move on to people flipping others off in a press photo?

Legalize drugs. Wy should I care if someone wants to shoot up. As long as OLN gets good coverage, I don't care what happens after I turn the tv off.

So if you were of this opinion to start with why didn't you make this crystal clear in your original post? Did you feel the need to stoke the fire when responses weren't outraged enough for your liking? What's the deal, yo?

This is an "outtake." They were probably all goofing around, taking photo after photo and it was likely a response to some smart-ass comment made by a teammate or someone on the camera or team crew. Just look at the shot. It appears they are laughing, looking in different directions, smiling, etc. There is no issue here.

definitely an outtake, all the photo equipment is probably digital and someone leaked it on the web or something like that. why the hell should she get fired because the media guys were stupid enough to publish an outtake.

Riding her bike is her job, being a professional is something totally different. You are a pro 24/7. You are your sponsors spokes person 24/7. There are hundreds of women who would jump at her spot on the roster, even for $2100 like someone else said. Even at that rate she is still getting paid to ride a bike.

The word of the day is "Context"

A few of you seam to ignore this all important word.

1. Clearly an 'outtake' type shot
2. The girls are laughing, it is a reaction of most likely a ribbing at her expense.
3. No one would mistake this photo as a representation of aggression or anger.
4. Some of you clearly have your panties pulled up way to high.

I've had the privilege of racing alongside a few of these girls. (They join in a lot of the SM 3 road races out here in CO) I've experienced nothing but great attitudes from my encounters with the Lipton girls. (Despite some of the unwelcome attitude some of the fella’s have) I for one consider it a privilege to have my ticket punched by some of our nations top women. Katie Compton and Sue Haywood have stepped into that role several times…

I think sponsors would be more PO'd if their riders were running stop signs and being disrespectful toward traffic/general public then for a off cuff gesture done clearly in jest.
