My buddy is selling his bike, and is hoping to get $1000-1100 for it. I think that's a bit high, and suggest it's worth more like $750.

It's a K2 mod 5.0 from 2004 -- that's an aluminum race bike with carbon stays. Full dura-ace 9-spd, FSA carbon pro team issue crank, k-force carbon seatpost, fsa rd-200 bars (alloy). Spinergy Rev-X wheels. Looks like you would expect a used racebike to look. He gave it the once-over with a new chain, bartape, cables, brake pads, and cassette.

I think the hangup is the 9-speed. People want 10-speed stuff because it's the latest greatest.

The "gem" on it is the wheels. I don't quite get it but judging by ebay people will pay a lot for them.

Think?

due a completed sale search on eBay for the complete bike and then the indivual parts to see what they have sold in the past. I think you might get the $1k. sell in the summer for a better chance. You may have to part it out to maximize profit.

No can do, unfortunately. There is a used bike show thing tomorrow, where he's selling it at, and he needs the funds for his new one...

I think me and my dad probably passed that one up at the seattle bike swap. There were not too many nice road bikes with a 57cm tt, for my 6ft 2" dad. And he would probably want something a little more comfortable then a race bike. We settled for a two tone blue older lugged serotta with full 9sp dura ace, minus the hubs and cassette. The paint wasn't in the best shape, but the dura ace group look carbon fork and king hs were probably worth the asking price. And a 58cm frame w/a 57.5 cm tt.

$900-$1000 is in the ballpark. And I think you overestimate the importance of the 10 speed rear, but maybe I'm speaking from my own bias. It just isn't functionally significant, and although it is the "latest" (I wouldn't say "greatest"), the used market by definition isn't driven by the "latest."

If the paint is rough though that WILL hurt. Aesthetics matter. People only want to pay real money for used stuff if it looks new enough to them to be their "new" bike. Banged up paint would definitely get the bike down to the $750 you estimate.

i think the mod 5 has a nice frameset. it may look like every other cheap alum carbon stay frameset but i believe it weighs in the 2.5 lb range....i could be wrong...
