I have ordered some KeO Carbon pedals for my new bike. I've never installed pedals except for the ones on my daughters 16" Schwinn. I've got all the tools imaginable to build a house, but no bike tools (yet).

Already know about greasing the threads- I have some lithium grease spray, but considering buying anit-seize grease at the auto-supply store. What I don't know is what tools I'll need to install the pedals. Do the KeO's require a pedal wrench (Park Tool PW-3) or 8mm hex (PH-8)? I know, it should be obvious by looking at the pedals, but they're on a UPS truck right now and I don't have time to fo to my LBS. I suppose I can check out Look's web site too  .

Never-seize is good stuff, but watch out what you touch with it, because it is really hard to clean off of clothes, shin, handlebar tape, walls, whatever... A small container should last you a lifetime.

you'll need the 8mm hex wrench.

don't buy the park tool if you already have an 8mm wrench or socket.

anti-seize is fine, but as was mentioned above, it's really really messy. i use white lithium grease. you can get the tubes used in grease guns for like $1 and it's enough to last decades of pedal changes.

Coming from an automotive wrenching background, anti-seize is the right compound for dissimilar metals. Bikes don't see the kind of stresses that an engine sees (even Lance's bike :) ) so a lithium grease would work if you have some laying around. If you have to buy one or the other for this use, go for the anti-seize.

Thanks to all for the replies. I went to the Look booth at the TOC today and saw it was the hex. And thanks for the tips on the anti-freeze about it being messy.

I bought a metric hex set from target with every size hex I could need and more. It was like $2.
Sometimes you need Park Tools, sometimes you don't.
Tip: I needed a chain tool and it was midnight so I got one from Walmart; I think it was Bell branded. It sucked; the piece of metal that holds the links in place actually bent. Never buy one.
