anyone have any info on the giro ionos? that's the giro helmet used by all their sponsored teams in the tour last year. Cyclingnews.com had a big write up on it before the tour. Giro originally stated a march 2007 launch date, but their website makes no mention of it, and all their 2007 sponsored squads are using atmos. Have they scrapped it?

My prediction: Ionos released on July 6th, 2007

My Giro rep told me that it would cost to much to produce it. He said that it would cost over $500 bucks. I think there is a good chance it got scrapped.

Ionos first generation helmets didn't pass the crash testing hence disappeared quietly from the pro-peloton and never hit the shops.

You have credible sources? It seems like Giro is due for a new helmet, but the Ionos certainly isn't seen around anymore.

This quote from another forum is (apparently) verbatim from a Giro rep:
"Bottom line is that the proto’s that were out in the TDF last summer were just that…prototypes that didn’t require the CPSC testing. Giro is actively underway testing, re-shaping, tooling and certifying this for introduction in 2007. It’s likely to be out sometime mid-summer if all goes well."

You realize that you're talking about $2.50 in styrofoam, right?
I know, I know...development costs. But still, $500?

i heard from a giro rep at our sponsor banquet that they scrapped it because a lot of pro cyclists just didnt like the way it fit their head - they said the atmos felt a lot better after 6, 7 hours.
