Speaking at CPAC she decided to call John Edwards a faggot, and lots of people applauded after her remarks. Good representation there that you conservatives have. I would disavow myself from her in a quick way.

She is one horrible person.

Yeah, I know, she was just "joking" right? Or she was being "sarcastic" right? Guess what? She's not funny, and not sarcastic.

COULTER: And of course, if you're working for a Republican candidate, you'll meet some nice heterosexual guys. By the way, before I let that slide, I do want to point out one thing that has been driving me crazy with the media, how they keep describing Mitt Romney's position as being "pro-gays, and that's going to upset right-wingers." Well, you know, screw you, I'm not anti-gay. We're against gay marriage. I don't want gays to be discriminated against. I mean, I think we have, in addition to blacks, I don't know why all gays aren't Republicans. I think we have the pro-gay position, which is anti-crime and for tax cuts. Gays make a lot of money, and they're victims of crime. I mean, the way -- no, they are. They should be with us. But the media portrays us. If they could get away with it, they would start saying, you know, "Mitt Romney, he's pro-civil rights, and that's going to upset conservatives." No. OK. Sorry, go ahead.

Republicanism was quite popular amongst gays. you know small govt not intruding on individual liberties. But since the NeoCons turned it into inverse nanny-statism fueld by the homophobic religious right the log-cabin Repubs have dwindled.

That's what she's talking about. We should keep her around for her politically incorrect banter, which here for instance makes a valid criticism of those she's supposed to be defending. When I was growing up back in the 50s and coming of age in the 60s, I was always surprised how conservative gays were. Their equivilant today might be middle class suburban soccer moms.

Of course back in those days gays were in the closet, so their straight and polite demeanor was meant to throw off homophobes. Rock Hudson and Tony Curtis were loved dearly by Fifties housewives who voted Republican. Ann Coulter can probably relate to that!

Like i thought, Coulter responds to her comment with this:

"C'mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean."

I hope she keeps talking like this actually, because then Americans will probably equate her with Republicans in general, and that could mean a good and easy victory for the democrats in 2008. She's an idiot, and to say otherwise, makes whoever is saying that she's not an idiot, in turn, look like one themselves.

I put her in the same group as Michael Savage and his ilk. Listen to me rant, buy my book. If she made thought provoking non-stinging political commentary, who would book her on a show? There are plenty of rational political pundits with day jobs.

I think that if she keeps getting invited to these rather high profile events, and making stupid comments such as she did, then indeed, people might start to think that she is representative of republicans in general. I'm not saying that she is, as I don't believe that she is, but lots of other people might be led to believe such things, and democrats running for President, especially Edwards, will, and already have taken advantage of her comments to paint her, and some in the republican party as haters and bigots.

Maybe she isn't an idiot, but she seems to play one pretty well on TV. Her statements time and again are idiotic, and yes intentionally provocative, but it doesn't make them any less idiotic, stupid, insensitive, and about 20 other adjectives that I could probably put down. I think that she is actually getting worse (if that is possible), because she's starting to become more and more irrelevant, and as she continues to make these idiotic comments, she will be marginalized by the republicans, as she should be.

Everyone in that audience and around the US knows that John Edwards is not a homosexual. But, the word "faggot" has a broader meaning. It's a derogatory term that implies that the person has no character or integrity and values self-indulgence over self-control. I would guess that the recent debacle over how Edwards mishandled the Catholic haters on his staff has made him a target of the right wing attack machine during the last month.

Websters II New Riverside University Dictionary on my desk. All the f*ggot definitions refer to bundles of sticks or metal rods and methods of binding things together. A f*g is a student who does menial tasks for an upperclassman or someone who works to exhaustion. Maybe Anne was referring to his work ethic. I don't like Edwards, but making up definitions to meet your agenda is "asinine". I can provide the definition of that one as well. I will keep the book out.

We all know what Ann Coulter meant on this one. And I think you knew what she meant as well. If she is talking bad about his work ethic, well then, that is just as blatantly false as calling him a homosexual, because regardless of what you or I might think of the man, he works his arse off at what he does.

The definitions that I came up with were:

http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=faggot

Now which one do you honestly think Coulter was talking about?

Delusional my friend. I've never heard that word defined in that way, and that's not the way she meant it either. Put it in context as she used it, and it says a lot about what she was saying, and it tells me a lot about you. I'm sure you're a Coulter defender to the end. Or am I wrong about that?

In general, when someone calls another person a "***" or a "faggot" they are not trying to accuse the person of being a homosexual. They are trying to discredit the other person's character or integrity. The phrase "you ***!" is used all of the time in playgrounds, schools, by athletes and by anyone who may be angry at someone else. If someone doesn't fit in they are often called a ***. It's a word that is used to demean another person's character. It is rarely used to accuse another person of being a homosexual. I'm surprised that anyone would needs this explained to them but apparently you didn't get it.

I am not a Coulter defender. She is quite capable of defending herself. Ann is extremely bright and she can hold her own against any liberal attacks. I do, however, admire Ann very much.

Of course from 23 years of cycling energetically--and lots of fruits and vegetables! I'm only 10 pounds overweight and that's mostly in the winter! All the chicks down at the Starbucks dig me, even though I'm probably older than their dads, maybe because I'm older than their dads! Hot young professionals cast admiring glances at this distinguished dude stepping briskly through the aisles in Whole Foods! I always get nods of approval cycling past young babes on their Pinarellos, when they realize the guy they spot in the distance, pedaling with rapid, fluid stokes in perfect form--is an old man! I could go on.

Thanks for the illustrative proof of Jamie Lee Curtis' hotness, Gregario. She was the lithe slender type when staying in shape. Too bad she dropped the ball! Who's that used up looking guy next to her? They make a good couple. She'd still be hot if she kept in shape! (Maybe) :) C'est la vie!
