foggypeake 03-03-2007, 10:06 AM - Two tubes (in zip lock baggie with a little bit of talcum powder in it; makes it easier to get the tubes inside the tires)
- crank brothers speedlever or quik stick
- CO2 inflator
- three cartridges
- glueless patch kit
- small multitool
- cell phone in my back pocket
All of buddies say that its overkill (They say that I am running away from home!), but then they are always asking me for a tube, tool, whatever.
Bottom line: I guess I carry a little bit more than I need, but back in the dark ages when I started riding, I had to walk my mountain bike home about 7 miles after I didn't prepare for my first flat. I guess you could say that I have been scarred for life.

jabpn 03-03-2007, 11:06 AM 1 tube
1 standard patch kit (w/ glue)
1 multi-tool (Topeak Alien II)
Cash
Set of tire levers.
I keep a pump on my frame with some duct tape around it.
I've never had a situation yet I couldn't get out of because of my seat bag contents.
ericm979 03-03-2007, 11:18 AM 1 tube, 2 tire irons, glueless patch kit, small multi-tool that has a chain tool on it, "boot" cut from a sliced tire, duct tape, cable ties, a $20 and a $1. All this goes in a small seat pack that stays on the bike. There's a seat pack and pump on each bike, so there's no chance I'll forget the tube and pump.

LOL. That's EXACTLY what I take as well, except I also carry a spoke wrench to prevent a broken spoke from ruining a ride, and just making it a small 5 minute adjustment and going on my way.
Dinosaur 03-03-2007, 01:32 PM Flats are the main problem:
In my jersey pockets I carry:
one spare tube w/two tire irons
co2 inflator w/one 12g co2
Park AWS-11 fold up allen wrench set
about $7.00 in cash
ID (old driver license)
Energy bar
Cell Phone
In my seat bag:
one tube
Park CT-6 folding chain tool
a couple of cartridges of co2
3 Park glueless patches
a couple of Park tire boots
bifocals (if I need to patch a tube)
Don't pack a camel back. two water bottles held in cages. In the summer I know where I can get water.
I never packed a chain tool, but started to carry one last year and shortly after broke a chain. I would have been screwed without one.
I fudge and carry a full length Blackburn c.f. frame pump. I have run out of co2. I use the frame pump to seat the tire and finish off with c02. In the summer when the weather is nice and having a flat is not such a big hassle, I will use the Blackburn to inflat my tire and not use the co2. A frame pump (or good mini) means you will never be without a supply of air.
You might get away with less. It depends on how adventurous you are..some guys just pack a tube, a couple of patches, a couple of hex wrenches and a frame pump..
Murphy's Law is that if you pack enough junk, chances are you will never use it. But the first time you don't carry something, that is the time you will need it...
CEtch22 03-03-2007, 01:48 PM for a medium to long ride like you mentioned, this is what I carry.
1. Camelback (most roadies dont like these, i use one at least in winter)
2. inside the camelback i usually have a bananna some granola and a sandwitch) I enjoy having something to eat when i take a break at my half way point.
3. spare tube, patch kit, small tool kit and cellphone in the seat bag.
4. and this is my favorite. I have whats called a roadID from roadID.com which has all my important information on a wrist band. it looks pretty cool with the stuff all ingraved on a stainless steal bit and its meant for running/biking.
merckxman 03-03-2007, 02:24 PM 1 tube
1 patch kit
1 small pump (mounted on water bottle bosses)

DieselDan 03-03-2007, 03:49 PM 2 tubes
I patch kit
2 tire levers
CO2 inflater
2 CO2 cartridges
spoke wrench
5mm/6mm "Z" wrench
On rides longer then 2 hours:
chain tool
personal medical supplies (glucose meter, insulin, needles)
All can go in my seat bag. I do carry a mini pump attached to a bottle cage.
Chris H 03-03-2007, 06:31 PM Let's see...
In the seat bag (a very small one BTW)
1 tube
1 patch kit
multi tool (Topeak Mini 6)
cash (one dollar bill reserved as tire boot)
House key
Master link in case chain breaks
On the bike:
Frame pump
2 water bottles
On my person:
ID and credit card
Cell phone
Few energy bars or fruit
When I first started off I had tons of stuff on the bike. I've definitely whittled it down. I don't even carry tire levers anymore on the road bike. Learned to change a flat without them.
