I recently took the Tufos off of my GP4s. These were the only tires that had even been on them and had been mounted with Tufo's Extreme gluing tape. I was able to fairly easily peel off the thicker part of the tape from both the the rims and the tires
What was left behind on the rims was a very thin, slightly tacky film between the spoke holes. Should I bother removing this from the rims before starting with the glue or can I just leave it under the first coat, as if were old glue? The thickness it not an issue at all - I'm just wondering if it will disagree with the new glue and cause any adhesion issues. Also, if I do need to remove it, what should I use?
The tires, whose new purpose in life is to serve only as spares have more residue on them, especially down the middle centimeter of the base tape. It's a little thicker than what's on the rim - more like thinly-spread chewing gum. Most of it can be pilled/balled up and peeled off by hand (with a bit of effort), but there's no way I'm going to get all of the smaller bits off this way. Assuming all that's left is small bits (and bearing in mind that this stuff, too, is pretty thin), can I go ahead and just add a coat of glue to the tires and be ready with them as spares? If I do need to get all of it off and start fresh, any suggestions as to how to do it?
As always, TIA!
