View Full Version : Maine Mudseason Mudflap...
singlecross 03-13-2007, 02:57 PM Rigged up a mudflap for the front fender as we got the first taste of the Mudseason commute here in Maine. Take one old beat up Bean boot (L.L. would be proud), One pair trauma shears from the first aid kit, Two screw rivets from the old ski boots, and a quarter cup of extra virgin olive oil brushed on to treat the leather and voila! Leather mudflap.
singlecross 03-13-2007, 03:00 PM The dog wanted to come with this morning... sorry girl. I'll be home after work.
singlecross 03-13-2007, 03:03 PM Mudflap was tested in the first mile. Ahh... dry feet.:D
singlecross 03-13-2007, 03:07 PM Off the back roads and onto the main road. Hey, this is a bike route...good.
singlecross 03-13-2007, 03:12 PM Stopped to see the snowmelt bring this stream to life in the last couple of days...
singlecross 03-13-2007, 03:17 PM Nice and dry up here on one of the hilltops. Almost looks like a desert more than coastal Maine... maybe that's why its named Mount Desert Island...
singlecross 03-13-2007, 03:22 PM Looking across the Bay to the East on the ride home. Get on Home before it gets dark, although that has become easier thanks to daylight savings...
singlecross 03-13-2007, 03:26 PM Got home just before dark after taking the long way Home. Good ride, good mudflap, goodnight.
FrontRanger 03-13-2007, 03:39 PM that sure is a purty bike.

I was thinking the same thing. Post a few more of your bike too.
SilasCL 03-13-2007, 04:13 PM Does the dog change color to blend in with the different seasons?
She seems to blend right in to the mix of mud and snow...

Custom Carl Strong Ti cyclocross frame built as a singlespeed commuter in Jan '07. Mix of Ritchey, Easton, FSA, Surly SS gear, and Neuvation wheels. Thanks for the interest. The ubitquitous cross bike woodpile shot. I'm enjoying it very much...a very versatile rig.
FrontRanger 03-13-2007, 04:49 PM I gotta say I love the words "Ti" and "Commuter" in the same sentence.
Most excellent MudFlappage.
allons-y 03-13-2007, 10:01 PM thats really cool.
we are starting to get snowmelt and exposed spots of grass/mud up here, and it makes me wish i had a 'cross bike built up to just tear things up on......

Wow. That is a great looking bike. Love the touch of red. I think I need to get one of those.
tarwheel2 03-14-2007, 04:08 AM Nice photos, beautiful scenery, great bike. However, all that snow and mud make me glad that I live in NC. It was 78 degrees when I rode after work at 5:30 pm yesterday.
Really cool bike. That looks like the just the right setup for where you live. Come August, and you can gloat about riding in mid-70s temperatures while we are sweltering in the heat and humidity down South.
Hollywood 03-14-2007, 10:35 AM it ain't a mudflap without a mudflap girl ;)
