I'm going to Monterrey, Mexico for a few days in May to see my niece graduate from college. I'm flying Delta from Atlanta to Monterrey (direct) but on a regional jet (i.e., small jet). Looks like I may not be able to fly with my bike due to baggage size limitations (according to website but still need to confirm). I checked DHL and UPS and it's about $500 to ship. My other option is to try and rent a bike (i ride mountain and road and am willing to do either) but i'm concerned about finding a decent rental (good frame / components / in good shape) that's my size (I'm 6-3 and ride a 61cm litespeed / xtra lg santa cruz blur).

Any suggestions or experience with solutions to getting in a few good rides while there would be much appreciated - including shipping one of my bikes, places to rent, tours, people to talk to, etc. My spanish a very basic but my wife is from Mexico and can help me if needed.

Also, any suggestions or experience on places to ride - help me decide if it would be better to focus on road or mtb. I've flown over Monterrey several times and the mountains/surrounding area look like prime riding but don't have first hand knowledge from the ground.
