Has anyone read the "Carbon Fiber Content, do bikes have too much?" artical in the May '04 I.D mag (the international design magazine).

Seems that they point out thar most carbon compoments are candy and jewelry.

And that "carbon fiber should not be used in bicyles unless it structurally makes sense...alot of the current applications follow 'no logic whatsoever'."

So what's the deal with carbon ring guards? Why does spooky and FSA make them? They cost more than a precisly machined FSA chainring, FYI the FSA chainrings are $35 and their ring guards are $66. I get the weight savings...but come on
20g vrs 40g. I would think a nylon plastic guard would sufice, they would be flexable to a degree, protecting the chainring and keep the chain on the ring. Also they would be cheap.

Poll: what guards do you use in you single ring set up and are you happy with them?
(include third eye and guard combos)
