I've noticed after my last 2 races that my right eye has been affected. it feels irritated and is somewhat bloodshot. its sort of a general feeling of irritation like something is in it. this feeling lasts about a week, and only effects my right eye. I race in Hincapie glasses so i do not believe it is dust, etc. could it be a blood pressure HR issue? my vision is never impacted.

hmmm, that's odd...I got the same thing going on...we logged a hundred miler the other day with some pretty intense stuff, and for three days afterwards my eyes were all whacky and irritated...and I see a slight double image...cleared up fine..but just like described, feels like something is in there, but nothing really is...

Didn't go to doctor, but my thoguhts are: intense ride, you aren't blinking as often as you normally do, so things dry out...top that off with a breeze constantly blowing around, even behind the eyewear...also, I know that dehydration affects your eyes as well....so I think it is just a bad eye environment...

But I'm no doctor...

Weight lifters suffer this problem and it can eventually develop eye problems later in life.

Working and straining your body at intense efforts can cause you to tense up. This includes your eye muscles. Relax your shoulders, control your breathing, and try to smile before/during the pain. Although smiling itself may not control it, the psychology behind it will: you don't want to look like a manic pedophile while riding, so you will naturally relax your face and loosen your smile so that you don't strain your face/eye muscles.

the blood vessels in the eye are some of the most sensitive in the body, often bursting when under great stress.

You should also check with your eye doctor, often a person can have latent virus' that only shows itself when under great stress. I had a smiler issue that showed up right after I ran a marathon on little training. At first the doctor misdiagnosed it as "pink eye" he was wrong and by the time we fixed it I went thru a month of great pain and have scratch on my left lens....I also popped a bunch of blood vessels in my eye

a few years ago I went bungy jumping and burst a little blood vessel in one eye. b jumping is not harsh, I think it was just the acceleration. maybe I just have senstive eyes. BTW, this has never happened at the same HR's while indoors
